Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Arty Farty 15 on Feb 28, 2020 9:36:23 GMT 1, Just remember. The same people who give investment advice here are the ones who flip posters and postcards for extra cash.
Haha so true. People that put framed postcards on their walls telling people what to put in their portfolios.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Deleted on Feb 28, 2020 9:48:00 GMT 1, I personally have stopped buying .. all extra cash will go towards dry powder to buy equities and other rock bottom opportunities (what those are, i am not sure yet). I flipped houses during the recession, bought silver , gold and diamonds during that same time. I like panic How many bottles of antibacterial hand gel have you bought? Tried to buy a bottle yesterday and seems there is a shortage. Looked on Amazon and 6 small bottles nearly £60!! crazy.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Schrödinger's Chat on Feb 28, 2020 10:40:37 GMT 1, I'm going to share my gripe about coronavirus reporting. I wish they would refer to active cases rather than grand totals, it would be less alarmist. Saying there are 15 cases in the UK when 8 are reportedly better is misleading. Rather than 84k cases, there are apparently closer to 45k live cases, and 37k have recovered (3k unfortunately have died). This website seems to show all the stats, I can't verify the accuracy but obviously people are recovering not only getting sick. (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/)

Don't care ... And you're wrong, you saying something doesn't matter to anyone.
I mean it's obvious that you don't mind making huge profits off of hard working people's backs, since you're selling tenners for infinitely more than you received them , that is since you imply you're part of the old Banksy crew.

Why berate the person for being smart?

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mojo on Feb 29, 2020 20:44:32 GMT 1, Boris Johnson needs another three days off before holding an emergency COBRA meeting. It must be exhausting caring that little. He's been very busy impregnating yet another women to add to the list, as well as speeding through his divorce from one of his other wives (so as it didn't clash). Divorce Friday new kid announcement Saturday. The "emergency" COBRA meeting and 1000's of peoples houses floating in excrement can jolly well wait.

Thank you for that link. I have a lot of time for Rory Stewart. It’s worth taking the time to read some of his achievements. He is an impressive man.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by LJCal on Feb 29, 2020 21:09:34 GMT 1, It should have zero impact on anything, the panic and reaction will be far worse than the virus. 60-80,000 people die every year from seasonal flu and that is not publicised. 3,000 deaths out of 7 billion+ is a drop in the ocean and the reaction is completely disproportionate. The press need a new crisis to get people to tune in.

I heard he was recently offering to meet his constituents by sleeping over on their sofa's. He's definitely a tad eccentric and possibly way too nice to be in politics.

Once a tory, always a tory. Check his voting record. Sounds a gimmick to get elected as mayor. I'm sure he's a nice bloke though.

I´m not a infectious disease specialist but let's hope this virus will be dead when temperatures hit a higher level. Corona is transmitted in the same fashion as the flu and common cold: by close contact with infected people and from respiratory droplets when an infected person sneezes or coughs.

Pretty cool in Tehran still at this time of year - just starting to warm up now, so we'll have to see about the temperature effect. Won't help the southern hemisphere of course ....
We may know a little more about antiviral benefit by June, but vaccine will be next winter at the earliest I would think.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 1, 2020 21:39:33 GMT 1, What this virus will do or is doing.. it is giving governments the perfect excuse for why their economy is doings**t. This will keep the muppets in charge but could put a few countries in recession, global recession? Maybe? Germany was on the brink of recession before Xmas, here in Australia also.
So we’ll see what happens end of next quarter.. doubt it will affect high end art purchases? it may affect cheaper art (people buying from artist on ebAy Etsy and instagram etc..) as people will lose jobs, have their hours cut etc.. also Retail is down, car sales down etc.also people are tightening up and not spending and trying to pay of their debt as interest rate levels are the lowest they’ve ever been worldwide, so this hits the economy also..
Our family has been doing this the past few years, cutting back and paying off debt. I enjoy reading blogs on be FIRE movement... The plan is debt free early in life and retire early 👍😉

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by LJCal on Mar 1, 2020 21:49:46 GMT 1, It should have zero impact on anything, the panic and reaction will be far worse than the virus. 60-80,000 people die every year from seasonal flu and that is not publicised. 3,000 deaths out of 7 billion+ is a drop in the ocean and the reaction is completely disproportionate. The press need a new crisis to get people to tune in. The case fatality rate - the proportion of cases that are fatal - of coronavirus has (so far) been just over 2%, that’s 20 times the fatality rate of seasonal flu. You are basing that on reported cases, there are probably double or triple the number of unreported cases where people suffer only mild symptoms. From what the experts are saying the true mortality rates are likely less than 1% for Carona. Seasonal flu is around 0.2% or 2 in 1000 however it’s hard to know the accuracy as many flu deaths of adults are unrecorded. Trust me this is all unnecessary panic and the reaction is far worse than the consequences of the virus, it’s going to cost trillions.

Trust me this is all unnecessary panic and the reaction is far worse than the consequences of the virus, it’s going to cost trillions. I was quoting an expert, epidemics expert Dr Jonathan Quick, former chair of the Global Health Council, speaking only today. Funnily enough, he went on to define one of the real dangers at this point in time - people who remain unconvinced or unaware of the potential danger this virus poses. I’m no merchant of doom - I take information from experts, not from news media, nor from people on art forums who say “trust me” - but it’s critical to disseminate dispassionate, evidence-based information and not to mislead the population. That guy has been working his whole life towards this, it’s what makes him relevant he doesn’t care if his advice costs people’s jobs or harms people’s prospects. “Experts” often twist facts to suit their own agendas and the layman take them on their word without any kind of critical thinking. The fact is worldwide estimates are between 200,000-500,000 die from flu each season, how come each of those deaths are not given a running commentary? Or when someone dies from HIV or malaria there isn’t a globally publicised up to the minute death toll for these illnesses.
