Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by mrdeano on Apr 1, 2020 15:53:34 GMT 1, Still related... And a genuine curiosity of mine, having sat through several nonsensical ramblings...
I remember the Banksy Grenade work that pretty much everyone on here ridiculed as a worthless piece of rubbish all those years ago, only for the guy to show off his pest control certificate a few months later. This was an actual 'artwork', either on canvas board or wood panel if I remember correctly? Obviously in huge contrast to any street piece that would NEVER be authenticated either way.
My question is...
Has there ever been a post on here where someone has presented a Banksy street piece that has been widely accepted by most people as authentic?... Or are they all written off immediately?
Absolutely genuine question...

Someone found the corresponding picture photo shopped in Wall and Piece. They matched perfectly.
In my opinion the only way you can reasonably identify a street piece is if you match the piece to an official Banksy picture (say on his website) and it matches *everything* including the random speckle of rust or crack in the wall or other idiosyncrasies. Or if you have picture of yourself removing an official piece from the street. In the latter case, violent response will typically ensue.
Other than that, the piece is considered an "after Banksy".

Lots of discussion here about clamps. urbanartassociation.com/thread/145351/heavy-weaponry-clamp Thanks Ling, I did have a flick through that before. I was amazed at the level some really talented people were able to show the two images compared together which showed the inaccuracies in the stencils. That was what I was hoping for but several members just posted a barrage of abuse instead.
With the Grenade artwork in mind, where almost everybody slated it before he received the COA, have there been any street type pieces brought to the attention of the forum members that have not been ridiculed, but accepted as genuine? Some long standing members must be able to answer that in some way?

The umbrella / briefcase Rat? That was obviously completely genuine from the bolts that originally held the panel in place, and the details of the Rat. Was that posted on here, asking for opinions before being accepted as genuine?

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Fast Eddie on Apr 1, 2020 16:33:15 GMT 1, You can search for that thread. It should be somewhere on here...
I think the issue is the stance implied by "That was obviously completely genuine..." which seems a reaction many on here do not instinctively share on any unconfirmed street pieces. Rightly so, in my view. This is why Pest Control is so important and useful for the commercial work.

Rightly so, in my view. This is why Pest Control is so important and useful for the commercial work. How much more confirmation would somebody need that a photo from B's black books / wall and piece or his internet page archives perfectly matching the removed artwork in every way down to the rust on the nuts and bolts holding the panel together, not to mention the unique way the Rat was sprayed making it utterly impossible to recreate in my opinion. Thats just not the same. If my piece was pictured in his books but had vague differences then fine, I understand the abuse I would receive if I tried to claim it as the original. However, when people have no historic photo evidence to go on how can they say its 100% fake.

The same person that said the Tokyo piece is not the same because a bolt was missing, commented on mine... And that was a known, published entirely genuine street piece.
What chance do I have when I don't have the luxury of a historic photograph in wall and piece lol.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Terry Fuckwitt on Apr 1, 2020 16:52:07 GMT 1, It doesn't matter about proving its 100% fake. You need to prove it's 100% real! And the only way you can do that is to get a COA from pc, which won't happen.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Fast Eddie on Apr 1, 2020 16:54:10 GMT 1, That's the level of confirmation needed to say it is 100% real.
It is not that hard to see that what people are saying is that there is a x% probability it is real and (100-x)% that it is fake, with x subjective.
It also seems that any x less than 100 is not worth much to people.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by pellets on Apr 1, 2020 17:03:55 GMT 1, Do you care to elaborate on your reasoning behind this conclusion or are you happy with just adding a useless one liner? Honestly, its like trying to communicate with a butternut squash, trying to engage in conversation with some of you lot. My next point of interest would be to question why someone who believes they have an original Banksy piece be happy to let it go for the princely sum of ยฃ1,500.
I just got carried away and went real deep on wheel clamps. That style of wheel clamp was patented in 1991 by Trevor Whitehouse so its been around for ages. Couldnt find any info on when the ones with the DVLA stamp were made. Weirdly there isnt a lot of history online about the UK roll out of various wheel clamp designs...how long is it til im allowed to leave my house...

I also read they stopped clamping in 2009 but it took until 2011 to make clamping against the law. But, I think DVLA still have the power to clamp cars with the change in law only in force in relation to private companies.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Deleted on Apr 1, 2020 22:31:18 GMT 1, If anyone does buy this, please do send me a message! I have a Basquiat for sale that you may be interested in. Provenance is as good as it gets - I found it in the back of a skip in Croydon. Sotheby's are always trying to get me to put it into auction with them but being the nice guy that I am, I want to give someone the deal of a lifetime.
You sound like a genuine seller and an all round good guy
I hope someone is fortunate enough to take you up on this.
I would but I just bought a Hockney from gumtree

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by mrdeano on Apr 1, 2020 23:39:01 GMT 1, Hilarious!! Have you considered stand up? As you have now been made aware, your wheel clamp has the same level of provenance as my Basquiat to any buyer worth their salt. Provenance is everything. It was a bit of light banter and far nicer than what others have written about/to you. You could have the real deal - but without a PC cert or an exact match found in a catalogue raisonnรฉ, its just a fun piece of art. Art is very strange - let's say that this was made by some chancer ten years ago but for whatever reason Banksy stumbled across this post and decided to have a bit of fun and post your picture on his Instagram, suddenly its "genuine" and worth ยฃยฃยฃยฃยฃยฃ There are many bits of Warhol that are most likely not the real deal. If they have been passed through enough auction houses and you had a mate at the Andy Warhol Art Authentication board before it was dissolved that fancied a back hander - congratulations, you own a "real" Warhol. I wish you the best of luck with your sale. Thank you for that. I take on board what you have wrote and agree fully. It wont be peddled through different auction houses. Ill wait for a reply from Pest Control now although I had completely wrote them off beforehand, taking on board what some people have explained in PM's it may be worth a try as the specific wording of any response can help which I wasn't aware of before. I have asked if its possible for them to closely compare the actual stencil that was on display in Banksy vs Bristol show if indeed, the stencil is still in existence. I have also explained that I am fully aware that it would never gain a COA but in the case that it is right (which I know is a billion to one chance) then it could be auctioned and the full proceeds be made payable to a charity of Banksys choice. If however, I get no response or a simple 'its fake, shove it in a skip' response from them, then ill pop it on eBay again i guess.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by 1970hopper on Apr 2, 2020 0:19:16 GMT 1, As you have now been made aware, your wheel clamp has the same level of provenance as my Basquiat to any buyer worth their salt. Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by artzhole on Apr 3, 2020 12:08:42 GMT 1, Iv got a banksy design road sign and it's still one of my favourite pieces I have. Weather it's by Banksy himself is and will always be unknown without conformation from PC but that doesn't matter in my view as long as I enjoy it.
It's the closest I will ever be to having anything Banksy as I couldn't be further away from wealth.
Trying to invest in one of these in my view is definitely a Fools game, if you like it enjoy it for what it is, a road sign with cleverly placed Banksy art on it, weather it's by him or not can be in the dreamy eye of the beholder.
We all have some big story of history (I know I do) but without proof will always be just a cool story weather its true or not.
Enjoy your art or sell it with 100% honesty.
