Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by Octopus UK on Apr 8, 2020 19:01:29 GMT 1, Hello,
does anyone know if there is an "organised" charity sale thread going on here at the moment, particularly in relation to CoViD-19? I've looked through the Art For Sale section and can't see anything. Maybe I'm missing it.
I have a Banksy Soup Can poster that I bought back in the day, and it is doing nothing for me, that I'd like to offer - I've seen a few of these for sale here I so hope it would go soon for a decent price.
The reason I thought about this is that Bonhams are doing "The BLUE Auction in aid of NHS Charities Covid-19 Urgent Appeal" now.

Very generous. Recent sales here were around GBP 700 - 800 , so that's quite a donation.
People interested could add their offer below here as an auction....

Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by Octopus UK on Apr 8, 2020 20:39:08 GMT 1, OK, I have one picture to start off, but I can take more if needed.
Firstly provenance, I bought this over 10 years ago direct from POW (along with an Invader and Eine's Blue and Pink Trains - that takes me back). I have the reciept and the tube. The poster cost just £9.99 back then ...
Since then it has not enjoyed much love. I framed it in an clip art frame, afterall it was just a £10 poster. To keep a gap between the poster and the plastic, I fashioned a rudamentary mount. The clips then held together the backing board, the poster, the mount and the plastic. What I have just found is that this has compressed the edges of the poster so that there are ridges around the poster akin to ripples, not creases. These should be visisble in the attched photograph. It may be possible to flatten these out or mask them with a more professional framing attempt? So I guess I'd describe its condition as "fair". Anyway, let me know if anyone would like more detailed pictures. In retrospect the framing wasn't a good idea, but who knew then that this would not always be a cheap £10 poster?
I am note sure if the image will automatically display here, if not try this link ibb.co/0Y7WFhC

That's great, although I now feel like an arse for messing up the offer by starsky55 which was a very good one.

Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by Octopus UK on Apr 12, 2020 16:28:09 GMT 1, Hello,
I am looking into posting options for this poster in a POW tube. It weights about 0.5kg, 80cm by 10cm by 10cm. The quote I have from parcelforce (drop off at a post office), with £600 insurance is:
Parcel Force express48 Net price £12.35 Parcel Protection £16.50 VAT £5.77 Total £34.62 inc vat
This is a bit more than I had in mind, £20 to £25. Can anyone suggest an alternative courier, Leeds to Glasgow. A collect from home would be good. Or maybe this Parcelforce quote is competative?

Not a collect from home but I would personally have just used Special Delivery before 1pm with an insurance value of £500 (the max on Special Delivery without additional cost) which is about £10 postage
I will point out though that regardless of your value on Parcelforce/Royal Mail (£500, £600 etc.), if it goes missing you’d have a hard time claiming that value, even with proof someone has paid you it (e.g. a sale on the bay).
The tube dimensions are fine for special delivery. The max size is 104cm (x2 diameter plus the length. The max length is 90cm).

As long as you package it well and if possible double tube, I wouldn't bother with insurance. Most won't payout for damage of a print. Normal Royal Mail will accept the tube size you have and are less likely to damage it than a lot of couriers.

Well done to you for doing this

Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by John The Badgers on Apr 12, 2020 18:50:27 GMT 1, At work we use APC overnight for all our parcels, I would recommend them, and never had an issue.
They will collect from you, and when I have insured, quite reasonable. They also offer a 'fragile' option, I used it for something I was a bit twitchy about, and apparently the 'sorting' done with more care.
I have found them very good on the delivery side, they provide full tracking for the receiver, time slot etc, and wont leave it propped up against a wall if no one in. If McGill14 not in, they card it, and then he arranges re-delivery, so nice and safe.
Don't hold me to this, Octopusuk, but thinking this would be circa £15-20?
There is a depot in Leeds - apc-overnight.com/
Hope this helps, and as per irl1, a great gesture.

Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by Dive Jedi on Apr 12, 2020 20:19:50 GMT 1, Friend of mine used to work for dhl, he told me that marking a parcel ‘fragile’ was akin to placing a target on it. Dutch Bicycle producer VanMoof had a lot of damaged boxes arriving at customers.
Until they decided to pack the bicycles in Flatscreen TV boxes. Arrived safely ever since.

The parcels aren't marked 'Fragile' Godsultimatenoise, as I agree, this perhaps asking for it.
I asked what it meant when I used it, and apparently sorted differently at the distribution centres, and its something you just add to the booking on the on-line platform. The label then determines it goes via this route, rather than having 'Fragile' written on it in big red letters.
Appreciate when you are sending anything there's always a risk, but at work we send out circa 20 parcels a day, I've been there a number of years, and never had an issue with damage, and these are all on the 'Standard' service.
As above, I like the way they authenticate delivery. We supply some product via eBay, where I am always twitchy about it landing there safely, and not getting ripped off. The system they operate seems to make sure its signed for 'properly', and by the right person for proof of delivery.

Charity begins with a Soup Can Poster, by Octopus UK on Apr 18, 2020 14:52:03 GMT 1, Mr mcgill14 tells me that the poster has arrived safe and well with him. I sent the poster via parcel force (home collection) for next day delivery (express24) but Mr mcgill14 found out that these guarantees have been suspended. No word of this when I booked the postage. Be aware of this. Anyway it arrived within 48 hours so not too bad.
Now that he has the poster, if you are interested and want to help a good cause, look out for news of his auction. Thanks for your interest and advice.
Please stay safe and well everyone, these are hard times for some and as Mrs Smith said "Remember to be kind, Winston".
