A pleasant quiet little corner of the forum. I think it sits rather well with my radio thread (which got moved to the music section even though all my posts there are the spoken word - that made me grumpy).

Art Books! Books! Books!, by terryfuckwitt on Jul 28, 2020 23:53:31 GMT 1, Thank you for posting. Haven't purchased this yet, but intend to. If a mere cover image can prompt others to do the same and even read a few pages, then that's a, er, win in my, er, book. I would encourage members to keep an eye on the author, Lily Cole*. Over the years, she has repeatedly impressed me. Just the fact she co-owns a book shop * should speak, er, volumes. Her response in 2018 to criticism for being chosen as a creative partner at the Brontë Parsonage Museum to commemorate the bicentenary of Emily Brontë's birth was also beautifully handled: www.nme.com/news/lily-cole-hits-back-at-critics-in-bronte-society-row-2206662www.lilycole.com/what-would-emily-bront-think__________ As for the subject matter of Cole's book, it appears comparable to one I highly recommend: Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress by the rather brilliant Steven Pinkerwww.amazon.co.uk/Enlightenment-Now-Science-Humanism-Progress/dp/0525427570Here's a 2018 news interview with Pinker. The clip is superficial and brief (7:47), but still offers a reasonable overview and has the advantage of accessibility: Steven Pinker Discusses 'Enlightenment Now'- uploaded by WGBH News on 15 May 2018And just in case anyone requires further evidence of the present culture war between liberals and illiberals, even Pinker — who's about as thoughtful and levelheaded as a person can get — has recently been targeted by disingenuous "offence archeology" and the cretinism that is cancel culture. At the risk of being accused of hyperbole, this would arguably place us in the latter stages of First They Came. __________ Returning to Lily Cole, before promptly going off on another tangent, she's a helpful reminder of how great a band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are. Art Books! Books! Books!, by terryfuckwitt on Jul 30, 2020 21:08:02 GMT 1, Half price book and print for 24 hours only. Yep, It's still pricey but you get a lot for your money imo.
iconicimages.net/product/icons-the-ultimate-terry-oneill-boxset/
In celebration of Terry O’Neill being awarded a CBE for Services to Photography in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list, ACC Art Books and Iconic Images are proud to release this limited edition box-set containing two of his most acclaimed books and a special ‘Bardot with Cigar’ stamped and framed print.
The two books, Terry O Neill’s Opus and Terry O’Neill’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Album – combined – contain more than 650 pages of the greatest photographs covering Terry O’Neill’s remarkable career. From David Bowie to Frank Sinatra, Elton John to Elvis Presley, Terence Stamp, Michael Caine, Raquel Welch and every James Bond in-between, these two books are a treasure trove of images from the frontline of film, music, fashion, royalty and sport – uniquely O’Neill.
Widely considered one of O’Neill’s signature photographs, ‘Bardot with Cigar’ was taken on the set of Les Petroleuses, aka The Legend of Frenchie King, in Spain 1971. “I was watching Brigitte prepare for the next scene, and the wind kept blowing her hair – I saw the photo I wanted to take before I snapped the camera. I had to wait weeks before the film was developed to know if I got the shot” remembers O’Neill.
The 20 x 28cm print is stamped and framed with a deep bevel envelope mount in 50/50 UV Glass and is ready to hang. This is one of Terry O’Neills most celebrated and collected prints and completely sold out in all small format editions.
The two books and framed Bardot print come packaged in a stand-alone box and a certificate of authenticity by Iconic Images.
Limited to 250 copies. Numbers 1-125: £650 & Numbers 126-250: £799

I'm hoping that you may have seen the Street Sketchbook Series - oldies but goodies

Art Books! Books! Books!, by Trismanco on Aug 8, 2020 15:36:46 GMT 1, I haven't posted for a few years, but in case its not on the radar I've written a new book - The Stencil Graffiti Handbook published by Thames and Hudson. This time it's a handbook with tips from some of the most exciting artists working in this medium. It follows the book Stencil Graffiti which I began writing in 1999 and published in 2002 - so this follow up book charts developments in the 20 years following.
Attention artists, activists, designers, typographers, provocateurs and all rebellious spirits! This is not just a practical handbook for making stencil art, but a guide to an artistic path. Street-art expert Tristan Manco and the more than 100 artists in this book invite you to experience the absolute freedom stencils give them to create, to imagine, to make mistakes and to change the world.
In an unprecedented age of protest when so many people have something to say – about political upheaval, environmental crises, social inequalities or just to demand beauty in the world – stencil art bursts the bubble of complacency and gets the message out there, quickly and as many times as necessary.
You will find:
• Stencil skills from the best – artists’ tips and tricks, peeks inside the studio and work in progress • Previously unpublished stencil work from around the world – Buenos Aires to Paris to Melbourne and beyond • Extracts from the Manual de Stencil, a DIY stencil zine produced by the Instituto Bogotano de Corte (Bogotá Institute of Cut) • Profiles of the most exciting up-and-coming stencil artists of the next generation as well as influential stencil masters • Mini-tours through the city streets of eight stencil hotspots

Well it did say signed by julian opie What did you expect? We all know there are different types of "signed by" - sometimes they don't specify if it's real, digital or printed. I am super happy with my copy!

Art Books! Books! Books!, by coach on Sept 11, 2020 14:22:44 GMT 1, Delighted to have picked this up. I’ve been after a comprehensive Munch monograph for a while. Until now I’ve only had the Tate exhibition catalogue. This large book runs to almost 300 pages. 258 colour images. Image quality is good.
