The first is a commission that Leo did for me - If you are not a Chelsea fan you would not appreciate it as much as two mates who used to stand on 'the Shed End' watching our beloved football team in the old second division along with 12,000 others standing next to the tea bar with plenty of room to spare - oh and nice electric fences at one point when Mr Bates decided that would stop invasions of the pitch (he clearly had never witnessed the ability of Millwall fans to short circuit said fence and climb over it!)
The next three are the A/P's of leo's work to add to my others for placing in my work office.... now just need the new office to be completed and then chose a suitable frame to go with the office...
Leo - such a talented artist - happy to support!

So I am going to try and attempt the answer the โmeaning of monitor headsโ question without getting too rambly for fear of making little or no sense... with a lot of questions about meaning in artworks the answers are normally quite vague like I did it because I like it or it came to me in a dream or โwell what do YOU think it meansโ but with these pictures I can (I think) find a route to the beginning of the idea.
Ok here goes nothing
So a good few years ago I had an exhibition in Bristol called War Heads. It was during the last Iraq war. I was living in the countryside in Ireland and the war seemed more remote and abstract than it had when I'd been living in Bristol and I wanted to tackle it in some way... So I made a series of works based upon the Irish Goddess of war (The Morrigan).
That was the first image of the series for the exhibition... there are a good few others but they all basically repeat this same co-opting ancient mythology to tell modern stories and the rewiring of modern tech onto natural fleshy bodies.
Going back a step further... I have always been into mythology (for reasons I won't go into now) and have always been suspicious of the way our history is split into a progression of epochs.. the age of mythology to enlightenment and BOOM everyone is rational and there is nothing scary under the bed any more.
I like the idea of myths occurring now and used to like making work where mythological characters live the same mundane lives as us mere mortals.
So this is a pretty old painting called the Minotaur's Night Out
and another pretty similar one about Bacchus
I grew up on a very healthy diet of comics and 2nd hand science fiction novels. 2000ad has been a big inspiration to me since me and my brother were given a big box of back issues when I was about 9. The ABC warriors and Nemesis the Warlock were mental, and brilliantly realised worlds where history and myth and science fiction cross over in this beautiful insane way...
We now live in a world where the reality of robots is on our doorsteps and in our houses, sleeping next to us in our beds and yet the robot is as much a mythological creature as the Minotaur.
Like a lot of people I spend a good bit of working day on a computer, using algorithms that make my life better, faster, more productive so much so that if I am not a robot I am fast becoming one.
Pop art has a great way of making deities of the mundane. Think Liechtenstein or Jeff Koons. But I am more interested in taking these gods and monsters and making them inhabit this slightly rubbish and half broken world that we live in.
I think that's it? I am not going to read back over it for fear that it makes no sense.
