then i screen printed some layers of patters that are just slightly off the background colour... tis subtle and sometimes too subtle so you cant really see it.
then a ghost layer of the main image... let that dry and paint in the background colours... mainly using washes again and then finish with the black print over the top...
but a lot of this is not very typical screen printing practice... like i try not to flood the screen much so that the black print layer is all scratchy and worn.
good fun it is but it takes fakin ages!

But yeah been thinking about this... I must know that piece deep in my back brain but wouldnt have cited it as an inspiration for the no signal print... although there are clear parallels.
In my mind the image came from reading lots of 2000ad when I was a kid, especially Ro-Jaws and the ABC warriors

The Piece is called The Morrigan and is named after the Irish goddess of death and war. This piece was originally exhibited in Bristol for an exhibition called WarHead.
The Morrigan is a 4 colour screen print onto fabriano paper and measures 42 x 60 cm
It is an edition of 5

I am normally pretty prolific but at the moment every time I try to do some work it comes out... well it comes out shite.
I wanted to make a piece of work that expressed this but the last 2 times I tried to print were so woeful that the idea was lost in confused mess... so today, today I thought would be the day! I had a strong image so what could possibly go wrong?
Turns out basically everything. After a good few hours in the workshop I got ONE print!
So here it is... it has no title yet but i am toying with
The Medium is the Monster
from marshall mcluhan's the medium is the message.
Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying the political mayhem as much as I am

going to have to give up the studio this week because spaces in Belfast are bloody expensive unless they are funded by the arts council... spent a long day there tidying up... and then making a mess again by editioning a print. It is a simpler one of the sofa robot on paper... I will upload some images tomorrow

The idea is to find 6 people from the general internet public (i.e. you) and get them to send me a photo which, using the wonders of digital manipulation, painting, collage and screen printing, I will render as some form of weird and wonderful portrait. Each portrait will be an edition of 2. One I will give to you and one I will keep.
The kind of image I imagine making will be akin to one of my recent computer-head prints so the picture that I would like to work from would be a photo of you standing, or sitting or milling about and doing something... it doesnโt have to be doing something interesting... could be eating cereal, walking in the park, fixing your bike or just sitting at a computer.
If you are interested in this send me a PM and I will give you my email address to send your high resolution photo to and I will work from there...
I am off on holiday on Monday the 25th so it would be nice to get the images before then so that I can work on them in my head before coming back to Belfast and making the actual prints.
Facebook users please share and disseminate this post with people you think might be interested in this idea.
