Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by chevyav53 on Jun 7, 2020 18:38:21 GMT 1, A book that might help some understand, if they want to.
White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism
Description The New York Times best-selling book exploring the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. In this "vital, necessary, and beautiful book" (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and "allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people' (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In this in-depth exploration, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively.

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by Javier on Jun 7, 2020 18:45:39 GMT 1, Surprised that was still in place considering what it represents Has Banksy provoked the Bristol statue incident? Why do celebrities find they have to jump on the band wagon when people stand up against injustices? Before all this my mind set was ALL lives matter and it still is. As a disabled person and also suffering PTSD I reached out to Banksy. He ignored me obviously only some peoples lives matter. Too much talk the talk and not enough walk the walk, I think With all the respects to your situation… I'm also disabled and never had the idea to reach out Banksy to solve my problems. I think he is doing lots of things, more tan what it should be expected for just one person. In my opinión I don't think he MUST solve all the problems (including mine). If there wasn't any more problems in the world I'm sure you and me would be represented, in the meantime let's allow him to participate in improving lifes the way he considers best. And pray for the day where a cop kills one of us for our disabilities in that way never reaches, that thay Banksy would be by our side

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by tab1 on Jun 7, 2020 18:56:52 GMT 1, Never mind me, black cloud descending - sorry I don't want to offend but when I cried for help, the system let me down. They sent letters of apology but I could have taken my own life. Sad but the way it is. So many talk the talk on mental health but unfortunately I have seen and felt the reality. I thank you for your understanding. Also my Cancer was misdiagnosed for 7 months due to NHS mistake. They asked if I was going to sue. I said "No" as I would never take money from NHS. Perhaps I should have and then bought a Banksy! Please forgive me my tantrum - Mark
You would not be taking money directly from the nhs , they would of had liability insurance By making an official complaint a review and investigation would be met and would stop the same occurrence being met and possibly saving lives as such in the nhs mismanagement is hidden until a death by wrong practices occurs and a full review is then made of practices

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by tab1 on Jun 7, 2020 19:04:53 GMT 1, also minorities should stop denigrating themselves. Complain if 'outsiders' use N word but some call themselves by said word. Same as 'Gypsy' racist term but boxer calls himself the Gypsy King - WE all need to look to ourselves, our morals etc and live life in FULL consideration as others. This will never happen. John Lennon called for peace - we the people will never let it happen huh? have you voiced that your house is on fire, often, for several hundreds of years and been ignored, or just been assisted with putting out a small flame? you are right, no one knows your situation. voicing my opinion from within the flame, no darkness here
The groups that use this Derogatory terminology , What age groups do they represent ? I am sorry to say these groups are young , ignorant and uneducated and do not represent or show a true reflection of the groups they belong to , one individuals actions do not count for the whole racial or cultural group They belong to
You make an assessment of an individual not by a characterisation of a racial group they belong to , otherwise fall in the trap of negative racial profiling . You would not class and characterise all Germans as of hitlers actions?

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by H.R. on Jun 7, 2020 19:35:47 GMT 1, First off, I agree w/ the black lives matter movement.
I do feel the all lives matter movement detracts from it, but I also agree with that too. I personally know white people that have been killed by police. One of recent got wrapped up, was hand cuffed on the curb, was peppered sprayed and asked for water to be poured in his eyes like they were doing for the ladies. Instead, they tased him and killed him right there on the curb.
Police brutality and holding the politicians that promote the heads of police are who need to be held to account. If you don’t know who cops and the commissioners report to, you need to educate yourself. Politicians are the root of all evil.
And who owns the politicians? The .01% of people in life. The 1%ers aren’t even the real issue. It’s the top .01%. They control the left and they control the right in politics. The police follow the laws put down by the politicians and are held to account by their captains, sure, but they report to the commissioner who reports to the mayor who reports to the governor. Soooo, the politicians control the force and the rich control the politicians.
If you want to fix problems in this life, you need to get to those in the ivory towers.
Want to get REAL pissed off? Your vote doesn’t matter. It’s an illusion. Why? Because the RICH and BIG BIZ choose who the candidate is on both sides through campaign donations. No campaign dollars, no nominee. So enjoy your fantasy world of choice. Those candidates are hand picked and funded to do the bidding of the rich before we get a shot on the ballot. They vote how their told. If they don’t, well, no campaign dollars next round and they’ll put in their next clown. That’s the real world folks. ENJOY!
Wealth doesn’t live upstairs, they live in their compounds, mansions with walls or on their own islands.
GOOD FUCKKKING LUCK getting to them though! They’ll only make more money when we rebuild the destruction that we have caused through rioting and looting. Life’s a bitttch!
So enjoy kicking down the door of the same people, but of a different color or facial features who can’t afford to fix their own water leak! Oh, nevermind, we’re looting those folks and then burning it to the ground. Cuz that fixes things and helps the cause. Idiots. 🤦🏼♂️
It’s just like Americans didn’t bring slaves to America. Rich English assholes did. They sent their Best Man to run the cotton trade as a slave owner, sent slaves along with white people they didn’t give a f**kabout as the scum of their empire. The Scottish, the Irish, the criminals and the orphans. They set back and reaped the rewards in England and then taxed the f**kout of the Americans until we said fucckkk you. Then after we kicked their asses. Then we ended the slave empire that they created. We may still have a way to go, but we’re way ahead of a lot of countries and their civil rights issues.
I agree that cops need to be held to account. But I disagree that white people haven’t fought since the beginning and haven’t been fighting for equality ever since. Fuckkk you and your ignorance if you think otherwise. I could name several countries that need way more help than the USA. But everyone loves to hate on the USA. Know your fuckkking enemy. It ain’t white people; it’s the ignorant minority of racists. And they have all colors.

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by mojo on Jun 7, 2020 19:37:25 GMT 1, LINK - article from Guardian 6 years ago questioning the statue
If the past really is another country, is it one of those best avoided? The question occurs following receipt of a letter from a notably upset reader, about a trip to Bristol. "Edward Colston, the Bristol-born merchant, member of parliament and slave trader, is one of the most evil men in English history, yet a statue honouring him still poisons the city centre today," wrote Mike Gardner. "What a disgrace. The city's politicians should hang their heads in shame." It's not just the statue that gets Mike's goat, but also the warm words inscribed: "Erected by the citizens of Bristol and memorial to one the most virtuous and wise sons of their city."
That was the view in 1895, when the statue was erected. But now? Gardner looked Colston up. Even of his time, the slaver was a bad 'un. "Between 1672 and 1689, Colston's company transported around 100,000 slaves from west Africa to the West Indies and America. This included women and children as young as six – each slave was branded with company's initials, RAC, on their chest. To maximise profit, Colston's ships divided their hulls into holds with little headroom, so they could transport as many slaves as possible. Unhygienic conditions, dehydration, dysentery and scurvy killed more than 20,000 slaves during the crossings, their bodies thrown overboard by the vicious sailors."
Others have thought long and hard about Colston. Bristol boasts Colston Hall, a major entertainment venue, on Colston Street and, on the basis of sorry history, bands like Massive Attack apparently refuse to play there. Which is laudable. But is it tenable?
To stroll through the City of London, or Liverpool, or Manchester, or Swansea is to go nose to nose with the tangible repercussions of slavery. Reminders of the key players, the buildings, the foundation stones of modern-day wealth. With antennae set high, one would resort to a lot of steering clear and boycotting. My folks hail from a part of Jamaica with names reminiscent of Scotland. My name is Muir. That was no twinning arrangement.
Maybe the answer is to make peace with the fact that sins of the past helped forge the present. Easier said than done. But a few more civic reminders of minorities who made this country great might help.

Imagine a different scenario where statues were left to stand after what they represented

The nazis started this regime after ww1 there were statues :busts of doctors that carried out these crimes in their hospitals yet these were all destroyed after ww2
Why has one destroyed the past reference and one is still allowed to stand ?

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by Lunch Special on Jun 7, 2020 23:58:39 GMT 1, Banksy is today’s greatest living artist.
Point blank. He Tackles issues important to the common man. Pokes fun at the establishments through art that’s serious yet cynically amusing. Provides insight on impactful economic disparities and shows love through donations when it’s needed to those in need.
Banksy for president.

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by tab1 on Jun 8, 2020 0:32:59 GMT 1, Says violent man who steals modern-day artifacts and charges people to buy them.
That's ironic, Leon.
This statement is factually incorrect. The trope of black men being violent is exactly the trap you have fallen into and what primarily propagates police violence to black men and children. I’m not hear to defend his removing of street art, but just to inform you he is definitely not a violent human being. good point , the conditioned bias is exampled , black equals violent , unless evidence to be presented ,the contrary is met on the assertion of this character of violence And from news reports found on the internet there is nothing to substantiate the comment and use of violence To this individual Foolish : idiotic or criminal behaviour would be more fitting to replace violent in your quote

Part of the problem ,I assume expectations were to be low ? Expected Negativity and racist views were to be had with arguments and mocking were to be had?
Constructive discussions and sharing of points of views are being made , educating on causes around us that we might not of been bothered to engage in before , a shame all though The issue has been continuing for quite a while and was common news in the media it was not until banksy posted his artwork until discussions were met here .

A Newborn baby ! A definition of innocence
What justification is there for a baby to be included and for people / mass crowds to stand by and watch ?
No empathy or humanity , that is how detached mindsets were in the general public , now the violence on the scale of the past has decreased But is still there , the same mass ignorance of understanding is still majority held
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Byrd_Jr.
Many atrocities forgotten from history and only relevant events remembered , what justifies An event to be relevant for history ?
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynching_of_Laura_and_L._D._Nelson
One shocking fact I have found whilst researching is that postcards were made of the lynchings which was common practice of the time and distributed and sold around the towns of occurrence

Man what are you drinking?
Banksy today is worst then he was a couple years ago.
As for this piece I don’t get the visual aspect of it...
I’d expect a lot more visually from him. His work shouldn’t need a paragraph to narrate it.

It is not only race issueS that are a problem but the mindsets of the individuals employed in these professions of police departments around the world that are creating problems these professions attracts A minority of individuals with narcissistic , sociopathIc and psychopathic traits that manifest into megalomaniacs
Maybe a psychological test needs to be part of the recruitment interview procedure to route out these individuals and create a safer policing society

Of course certain groups of people will have misconceptions and fear of the police and react in a certain way and present certain mannerisms when encountering Law enforcement As of one law enforcement employees bad actions has effected how the whole police force is perceived .education needs to be met ,accountability needs to be upheld and more public engagement to break down the barriers now presented

This is horrendous , the detainee offering no resistance , asking the officer what is he doing even whilst being assaulted and still being non aggressive and showing no signs of violence.
The other officer can clearly assess the situation of no threat Being presented and let’s the assault continue , this is white on white misconduct and not about race but the failings of conduct with in the police force
If the neighbour had not filmed this would of been unrecorded and the officer would of carried on his misconduct until he had killed someone . Any one of those blows to the head could of killed
if you notice the detainee hands are free and he did not fight back!
I am not anti establishment or against the police as we all need a society to be kept in order and rely on order to be governed by the police departments but with all aspects of society there are uneducated , ignorant people Intent on their own agenda and have little regard for rules that effect the hard work done by many and this latest issue has blown up from four individuals disregard for their own rules of conduct in the workplace let alone common sense and decency but when you look closely there is a wider problem within the police forces around the world And this will keep happening until those individualS are educated or removed from these police forces

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by H.R. on Jun 8, 2020 4:54:51 GMT 1, Didn’t your ancestors pillage rape steal Then put Stolen artefacts in there museums and charge people to see them Moral high ground How ironic I’m not aware of any of my ancestors doing any of those things and even if you draw some tenuous link generations back those aren’t my sins so I carry zero guilt. You on the other hand are a convicted thief Leon so if anyone on here has a reason to feel guilty it’s you.
No offense to you LJ Cal or anyone else. But the harsh truth is there is not one race, creed or country that didn’t rape, pillage, murder, steal and own slaves.
If you know history, slavery began within countries as they became to modernize. The most well known artifacts in history came from slaves. The Egyptian pyramids, they Mayan pyramids, the Great Wall of China. The Vikings murdered each other and those who survived were slaves. As they expanded, they did the same as the battled into Europe. Europe had already been doing the same for ages. The most notorious being those who ravaged the America’s. England, Spain and France. Mideast and Africa are also well known for slavery of their people, even notoriously selling them to others as a trade. Mostly through the ways of the Vikings. Warring families and countries selling the people whom they conquered. The Australians were known for their use of Chinese slaves. The Roman’s were hardcore slavers In their day.
So the fact is, all of us come from a history of slavery. Sad but true. The worst slave owners man has known reside in those Egyptian tombs and in those sarcophagus in museums. But, you won’t hear anyone demanding they be destroyed instead of on display in a museum. Or the destruction of their pyramids.
But I’m with you, my family came through Ellis island decades after slavery was abolished in the USA. My family had no part in any of that. I owe people nothing except to stand up for what’s right.
But that doesn’t stop with black people, it can start there, but there’s several civil issues out there. Police brutality, racism, woman equality, respecting others who have different beliefs, even words we use needs an overhaul. I honestly feel the use of the N word by ANYONE only perpetuates and further promotes racism. Anyone with 1/4 of a brain can see that. But people still use it. It doesn’t empower anything but more racism in society.
Folks need to get over the past and pointing fingers. Focus on the present, focus on the future and focus on doing and standing for what is right. And that doesn’t include shooting and stabbing police, destroying property and looting. If you’re one of those people. You are the problem with society.

The awful trade embraceD all cultures and races but not on the scale as some other races , a great disparity is met .
We discuss the more modern time which the effects of such acts still have effects upon society today
Only 60 years ago segregation ended in America , the issues in South Africa in modern times , the negative role reversals in Zimbabwe.
Get over the past and stop pointing fingers as you quote ? That is as bad as directing the same quote to descendants of the Holocaust? We had no part in world war 2 , they should move on with their lives and stop pointing fingers ? Sorry but that is an unjust statement many descendants of both scenarios have had families die in awful Horrific circumstances And these deaths are often held onto and discussed through the families generations and Obviously not effecting us as we are unaware of these stories But it is significant to these groups and we can not dismiss these events
It is the past and we can not erase the past but learn from the past and respect others .
In the past it was the governments that wanted to erase the past from the history books as many of the ruling governments were descendants of Merchants involved in the trade and had consciousness of thought the practice was abhorrent.
Another point that is written out of history books that many wealthy aristocratic families and governments built their wealth from was the opium trade and short lived cocaine trade when they were legal
