Measuring just under two by two metres, Perfect Light Over The Dancefloor (2023) is a monumental example of Thierry Noir’s iconic style and was the key work in the artist's recent 'Techno' exhibition at Christie's staged in collaboration with fabric, London's legendary techno club. Filling the entire canvas, a DJ—equipped with headphones and twin turntables—commands and electrifies the pictorial space. The artist’s hand is unmistakable. Flat, unmodulated planes of gleaming yellow, pink, orange and red are distinctly outlined in black acrylic, and the figure’s head is depicted in side profile—one of the artist’s signature motifs. In keep with the painting's special status, 100% of the hammer price will benefit the award winning Hackney musical charity Girls Rock London (GRL) and will be used to provide musical programming and educational projects in London. Born in Lyon in 1958, Noir first made his name as an artist after moving to Berlin in 1982. Following the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Nina Hagen, he was attracted by the city’s underground community of avant-garde artists and musicians, the punk rock bands of the German new wave, acid house and techno.

Shortly after arriving in Berlin, Noir settled in the Georg-von-Rauch-Haus, an unofficial residence in Kreuzberg five metres from the Berlin Wall. Credited as being the first artist to entirely paint its stark concrete surface, by the time the Wall fell in 1989, Noir had covered a staggering five kilometres of the deadly border’s span. Painting on the Wall was not only prohibited, but highly dangerous. It was built deliberately a few metres beyond the official border, so that East German soldiers could arrest anyone who came or stood near it. Faced with these threatening conditions, Noir developed what has since become his world-famous visual language. Forced to work quickly, he refined a recipe of ‘two ideas, three colours’, breaking down form to its most essential outlines. Populating the western side of the Wall with his vivid figures rendered in profile, Noir emblazoned this Cold War symbol of political oppression and division with bright marks of artistic resistance.

Hi, baarsofia and welcome to the forum. Yes, I realised henners version whatever meant the end of 2023 but I was trying to be sarcastic by asking which year (hence the winking face emoji). It’s quite simple to search Thierry Noir in the search 🔍 area in Christie’s, Sothebys and Phillips. This shows future auctions and results too, as an easy way to check those three, which are the big auction houses henners gets over excited about. Thanks for your help and have a great day 👍

Yeah that’s doing well, but you seemed to have forgotten the other two in the same auction, links below. If the red is getting warm, then these other two are either lukewarm or tepid at the moment. And I do believe old chap that you told me I’d be seeing these mini heads at Christie’s, Sothebys and/or Phillips by the end of the year? Rado/Wright auction house isn’t one of those. Only two months left of the year……
