Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Someones Brain on Apr 1, 2014 14:04:41 GMT 1, I bought the monochrome (b/w) print editioned for the retrospective show already. Just a heads up for you that they are taking preorders for the prints and the canvases. They are more than friendly. So don't hesitate to contact them.
Also, as the gallery kindly pointed out to me (even though I cannot make the opening event ) the exhibition opening on april, 3rd is guestlist/rsvp only. So you should probably emailing them before heading there on thursday evening.

They mentioned they will stop taking preorders soon to make sure they have some for sale on the night itself so get in there quick.

BTW if anyone has a spare Stik / Noir poster please get in touch.

Apart from these recent walls in London what's he been up to the last 10/15 years?
I like his style. I guess to be talked about more, you need more people to see what you're up to?
Will pop in this weekend cheers

Like Stik Noir manages to convey an emotion with a few lines that hit you. Tartarus you managed to get my bald head in the second picture in sync with the bald images. Definitely worth a look if people missed the preview.

The Stik effect for me is, at first I could not see beyond the simplicity and thought it was pigs trotters, but am now pretty blown away by the guy....

Or your asking as an investment / speculative buy ? If so stik has tiny editions and not regular releases that help keep prices high ..new guys to print markets that prove popular = bigger editions on each release
Nice bright funky images to brighten up a wall , prints are average prices to what is the norm now , canvases a bit pricey

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Someones Brain on Nov 14, 2014 14:13:29 GMT 1, I like his work a lot. As pointed out in some threads re: his show at Howard Griffin Gallery earlier this year he's a legend. Still wish I could have attended that gallery show. Here're the links to those older threads:
urbanartassociation.com/thread/114717/thierry-noir-retrospective urbanartassociation.com/thread/114729/thierry-retrospective-howard-griffin-gallery
I never drew that analogy (see the first post above) to Stik but from a visual aesthetics point of view you might be right. It looks rather simple but - at least to me - causes a lot of enjoyment. And knowing the origin of his work adds some special significance. When I look through my collection with some friends etc. Noir's print is always a conversation piece.

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by nacional on Nov 14, 2014 14:54:58 GMT 1, Not thinking in context of an investment....purely in terms of what people think of his art..
Comparatives to Stik...really becuse they seem to share the same type of simplicity and repetition of a similar theme...but it seems to have an organic appeal that comes from the lack of complexity and for some reason just seems to evoke or cause happiness and joy when I look at the work...sounds a bit Forrest Gump I know...but at the same time...if looking at art provokes a state of pleasure what more can we ask for...
Perhaps a dumb Friday analysis...but it's the best i got at the moment..!!

I find Stik absolutely fascinating and a very powerful artist.
With merely and few lines and some white, he manages to convey a very powerful array of emotions. At first look his images convey tenderness, peace, caring, community, motherly love etc...but as an undercurrent you also get a contrasting feeling of isolation, soullessness and to some extent despair.
For me Thierry Noir although interesting does not get all of this through. Do like his stuff though

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Someones Brain on Nov 15, 2014 0:38:42 GMT 1, He has an interesting history of painting. His figures are fun to look at and look great on the wall. He is a great bloke and is represented by a great gallery in Howard Griffin. What's not to like. In addition, as his art/painting started with the Berlin Wall it will always have some special meaning to me. Even though I didn't grew up in the direct shadow (neighbourhood) of that wall in Berlin I was born and raised in the GDR/East Germany. Thus Noir's art always reminds me - even 25 years after they opened that "prison" - to not take freedom for granted. For me, there's still a tension between the rather "funny" cartoonish nature of his art and the very serious background it all started with.
Here're two Noir quotes from VNA 10: "It's important to show the young generation that it was not an art project, it was a death machine." "It was something unique and it was more than graffiti because the Wall was the boarder between East and West Europe. Painting it was a protest."
