Problem is that noir has made possibly 100x the amount of canvases. I guessing he's done quite a few - this is just from one show...

They arenโt.
If anyone has been on his site in the past two years you could easily grab them in different colors.
You could also say that noir is probably one of the few who has as many โoriginalsโ works on canvas as he does paper editions.
โโโ Side note How easy would it be for this hype to be created internally by noir or his team?

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by zacksz 123123 on Aug 24, 2020 2:02:23 GMT 1, Well now, starting to throw in conspiracy theories??
Simple question being asked.
Those who consider it as a conspiracy theory tend to see more facts in what is being asked ๐ค.
But again. How difficult would it be with someone with 20-50k to throw around to easily create this?

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by BME on Aug 24, 2020 2:48:42 GMT 1, Heโs not the first artist to have suddenly become hot on this forum. SPQR, Faile, Neate, Micallef, Dolk, Invader, Pejac, Stik as well as Banksy himself have all seen massive and sudden price increases for their work - some have been sustained and some havenโt. Its just a product of limited supply and a sudden surge in demand fuelled by a fear of missing out and/ or the chance to make some easy money. I donโt think itโs fair to use these price increases to cast aspersions on the integrity of the artist. Most artists would far rather have a career of gradual growth rather than the boom and bust cycle that the forum feeding frenzy can create.

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Gentle Mental on Aug 24, 2020 3:50:46 GMT 1, I want to talk about the art for a bit.
At first they look decorative. Like those posters in kindergartens. Very pedestrian and disposable. Itโs like putting canvases of Mr Men on yout wall.
Thing is - they were painted on the Berlin Wall During the Cold War. Like, all over it; for years. So it does something. It ridicules it. The wall and the separation - the whole thing is stupid. Itโs a fear remover. Itโs a big f u to tension and hate.
If you have one on the wall Now, you can feel how stark and hard it pops. Like a traffic sign. It changes the mood of the room quite quickly. Things are less serious. Which is whatโs nice about it. Itโs not intricate. But itโs very strong and defined. Itโs not emotive (Stikโs simple lines are more expressive). But itโs mood changing. It doesnโt make people think. It makes people smile. In this time of great divide and chaos - Thierryโs art could bring us all some hope and happiness.
I like it.
Just feel iffy about the rather staged hype feeling generated on this thread.
Thank you. Goodnight! Please try the fish!

Lmao once again itโs a simple question.
Similar to mr doodle.... how easy would it be to say to get a few of your collectors to bid up the artist through a large auction house that will create hype on forms and other platforms? This is a question. If you are taking it as more, well thatโs on you...
1. Thierry noir increase recently, not at start of Covid. 2. How many artists do you also support that created art during acts of suppression from other countries... Please donโt act as if the Berlin Wall held any importance in your financial pocket prior to this recent increase in noirs pricing [

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Express Post on Aug 24, 2020 7:07:15 GMT 1, Can work for any artist really.
Possible to rig the market. Then once the momentum rolls, step back and profit. Just don't be the one left holding the baby when the music stops. Only reason he can jack up the price to ยฃ1020 for 7*10cm canvas is because he is creating artifical scarcity by drip feeding one canvas at a time and because this forum. Someone bought 50 keychains in one hit. Someone really loves schlรผsselanhรคngers.

Would the same have been said about other artists that folk have mentioned here? Surely we will all soon see whether this has been hyped. So people best love the pieces you've all bought. I just think it's a pity that this huge pricing hike will prevent most people who really do like his work to not be able to afford their first piece or more pieces. I'd stop supporting any artist who was found out to be manipulating their own market. Not that that would seem to matter these days. I'd hope that Noir and his team have more integrity than that. Why would he even allow it to happen and why wouldn't his team have done this years ago if it was a case of creating hype...

Painting the wall was forbidden, he used these simple heads normally with max 3 colours to paint quickly without being caught. I love that way noir uses these colourful characters to brighten the stark concrete wall

I think the similarity of each head and the discipline to the rules of creating them - reminds me of Hirstโs Spot Painting. Through stark repetition on the simplest subjects, you create a powerful iconic idea.
I also like the clear and even lines, the perfect circles. Like a vector. Machine made? Super flat. Haring. Kaws. Stik. Murakami. Made possible through thousands of repetitions I supposed.
This is why the originals are so much better. You can see the rich acrylic laid confidently on the canvas. Things like that make me happy. Hahah

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by JD on Aug 24, 2020 8:39:55 GMT 1, . But surely you would be better waiting for more โoriginalโ heads or messaging Thierry to paint you something ( which he would do) as an original ? Donโt get it ! OGโs all day long, canโt believe weโre having this conversation. Normally yes of course originals better
I am wondering though with the price rise and literally hundreds and hundreds of canvases out there, as seen in the recent pics then maybe in this case a run of 50/100 prints not an unreasonable want
edit* obv at a lower price

I imagine he has quite a large studio to maintain with all his upcoming shows and selling canvases for ยฃ100 isnโt going to cover it. They were cheap and available forever, so everyone has had a chance to buy.

Agree. What is the plan. Increase every time.

For someone famed as a good guy, the constant inflation is looking a bit greedy and tacky. I imagine he has quite a large studio to maintain with all his upcoming shows and selling canvases for ยฃ100 isnโt going to cover it. They were cheap and available forever, so everyone has had a chance to buy. His prerogative, of course. I don't see why his studio costs would have changed all of a sudden, but he's obviously free to capitalise on the sudden rush to buy.
It just seems quite a classless way to sell. Tiered pricing is never popular, but selling one piece before jumping to the next tier would be pretty brazen even for a gallery.
There would be ways to sell that would look a bit less like market stall tactics. e.g. he could release a number of canvases at once, for the same price, or by application, so he could weed out the flippers or repeat buyers.
Does anyone else sell like this?

I agree that you can question this selling tactics, but maybe he's just curious how high can he go? I am, and I'm glad he's doing it for my entertainment.

Oh yeah, it's very entertaining. I haven't followed a thread this closely since GDP. Probably less entertaining if you were planning to buy just before the madness, or if you're a new fan.

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by BME on Aug 24, 2020 10:30:21 GMT 1, Yeah, it does seem a bit mercenary, but whatโs the alternative? Keep selling for GBP100 and let the flippers have a field day? If people are happy to pay GBP1k for a mini canvas then I think heโs entitled to charge it. I mean theyโve been available for decades for next to nothing, so plenty of time for the fans to buy.
