If there’s an artist I don’t like or that I can’t trust, I simply ignore it. I do see people here highly concerned about this, much more than they should, insulting the artist while some say that they even dream of him!!!! Once you see this, you should tell yourself: “something big is happening”. Little things never cause such a great stir. What’s wrong with them?? Is it because prices have gone up for those who sell thousands of works while thousands of artists remain unknown? There are thousands of meaningless artists that are charging a lot more!!! Is it necessary to insult him?? Seriously?? Let’s go further. Is there such a big difference between INVADER, Kaws and Noir?? If there were one, who would be the most important??? What’s wrong with them?? Are they perhaps afraid of missing something?? I’ll tell you. What’s happening is that they’re still assimilating it. Don’t you worry because you’ll respect him. So, it’s not that important, it doesn’t really matter. He will be respected by all, just like a father is naturally respected. Place it in your living room next to other works of arts and you’ll realize that it will become the one you’ll look at the most. When having people around, you’ll see that it won’t go unseen. Friends who would never have bought a painting in their lives have told me that they’d like to have one of his. A worldwide design with something unique, very powerful and masterly. There is much more about these heads than what they seem to be at first, and once you look at them again, you’ll suddenly notice the whole story behind exploding in your head. It was too late when I saw it, but I did. It looked incredible but it was there, lost as it if were nothing, one of the biggest classics of street art. A fundamental artist worth of showing in any big collection, and I would even dare to say that a “basic artist for any big collection”. Nobody is going to weigh up having a good work from Noir. It’s that simple. Do you think being one of the fundamental artists in street art is not enough?? Collections are being gathered incredibly fast. Specific museums are being opened across the globe. Street art is becoming part of lots of collections and very soon it is going to be part, in its own right, of contemporary art museums all around the world. If you really are among those who are suffering because of this, I recommend you change your mind and enjoy yourself, as you may endure this for a long time otherwise. This is actually something to celebrate. ‘It went by with such a mysterious discretion, undercovered, without making a sound until it woke up like a bloody monster, like the old crocodile on the wall that sometimes woke up to eat someone and suddenly became one of the most important classics in street art to then go back to sleep, calmly in the place it should rest, Thierry Noir, a worldwide artist of a unique style that inspired a whole artistic revolution’. An extremely generous, humble and outstanding human being is what I think has caused everything that happened. Many won’t agree, but this is my opinion and here I reflect it. Respect for you all. On the Kaws and Invader comparisons, it's not a bad one. They all have a pretty repetitive style. I think a key difference in their success, silly as it may be, is about image. Kaws and Invader have very carefully managed their image to tie in with 'cool' things and maintain a fairly young audience. They're both middle-aged, as are most of their fans, but all their work and brand tie-ins lean towards the youthful, or at least remind 40-somethings of their youth. They also keep an air of exclusivity. Owning work by them has an amount of kudos, as you can see by all the Instagram accounts bragging about their latest 'cop'.

There's nothing wrong with being populist and mainstream. Many artists do very well from it. But there's a big difficulty in then trying to reposition yourself as a serious, potentially blue chip, artist. What makes him worth tens of thousands when there's no exclusivity?
With all respect to him, there's not a lot to re-examine about his work, because it's not rich in meaning, beyond his original Berlin Wall protest. So there's a lack of narrative to his decades of work, which is not that attractive to a wider market. It's hard to justify that his work has relevance to 2020. He's not a protest artist now. Without modern relevance or technical brilliance, where's the sell?

His work has historical relevence for a whole generation of a now whole nation; not many artists can claim that. It is also very decorative and puts a smile on your face...some artists can't claim that either.

That was over thirty years ago and he's continued producing work consistently, which has been popular, at a lower financial level. For broader appeal, an artist's career needs a story. What's the story for the last thirty years? What's the reason to buy Thierry Noir, for huge amounts of money, now? It can't just be 'he was the first to paint on the Berlin Wall.'

I don't disagree, but again, that doesn't add up to blue chip status. Being beloved and/or being part of a moment in history doesn't necessarily give you monetary value. Again, there's no dispute about the importance of his Berlin Wall art. If people love his work, great. Pleased for them. And him. But that's not what most people are talking about. They're talking about how he's going to be worth a fortune, which is really nothing to do with the art. On the Kaws and Invader comparisons, it's not a bad one. They all have a pretty repetitive style. I think a key difference in their success, silly as it may be, is about image. Kaws and Invader have very carefully managed their image to tie in with 'cool' things and maintain a fairly young audience. They're both middle-aged, as are most of their fans, but all their work and brand tie-ins lean towards the youthful, or at least remind 40-somethings of their youth. They also keep an air of exclusivity. Owning work by them has an amount of kudos, as you can see by all the Instagram accounts bragging about their latest 'cop'. Noir has not maintained an exclusive image. His work is all over tourist pieces in Berlin. It's on fridge magnets, key rings and mugs in corner shops. There's nothing wrong with being populist and mainstream. Many artists do very well from it. But there's a big difficulty in then trying to reposition yourself as a serious, potentially blue chip, artist. What makes him worth tens of thousands when there's no exclusivity? With all respect to him, there's not a lot to re-examine about his work, because it's not rich in meaning, beyond his original Berlin Wall protest. So there's a lack of narrative to his decades of work, which is not that attractive to a wider market. It's hard to justify that his work has relevance to 2020. He's not a protest artist now. Without modern relevance or technical brilliance, where's the sell? It is of course wrong that image should be so important in an artist's success, but it is true. If Thierry Noir does become extremely successful, I'll be pleased for him. But there really is currently no reasonable explanation for why he would be.

Noir and his work not only encompass an important part of the culture of the 80s, but are also a fundamental part of it.
By the way, you had a good chance of dying from doing this, now can you die from painting?

I can’t understand it. I wouldn’t follow threads of artists that I don’t like. If there’s an artist I don’t like or that I can’t trust, I simply ignore it. I do see people here highly concerned about this, much more than they should, insulting the artist while some say that they even dream of him!!!! Once you see this, you should tell yourself: “something big is happening”. Little things never cause such a great stir. What’s wrong with them?? Is it because prices have gone up for those who sell thousands of works while thousands of artists remain unknown? There are thousands of meaningless artists that are charging a lot more!!! Is it necessary to insult him?? Seriously?? Let’s go further. Is there such a big difference between INVADER, Kaws and Noir?? If there were one, who would be the most important??? I reached out through direct message on Instagram he/they were pretty quick to hit me back. Sent me three password protected links to options of Berlin wall chunks. Bought one and arrived to me in the states within two weeks.
Super accessible and easy to work with. Now just waiting on framing from my frame shop
