In China specifically I saw fake 4ft/8ft figures everywhere, paintings and prints throughout all the Young, Art districts, night clubs, bars. bubble tea areas, no matter what city. The Kaws figures were without doubt one of the most recognisable western things that I saw. If you didnโt know about KAWs you would assume the figures are just big in China. I went to a gallery in Shanghai that was selling a painting By a Chinese artist, it was a man sitting across from a adult size sitting Kaws figure with its head in its hands. It was quite nice actually. The gallery wanted 6 figures GBP for the canvas. Personally Iโm not a huge fan of his work, I do like the figurines but not at 50k plus and certainly not 28k for a lamp. But Based on what I saw in China alone I would be confident that his prices will only ever grow long term, with provenance being a big thing.
