Shepard Fairey - OBEY - Operation Oil Freedom, by bonesy on Aug 8, 2007 20:38:05 GMT 1, no banksy = no obey as we know selling out every week banksy has created a flipper environment. Just a year ago many of his "impressive" prints were sitting on his site for $25 and hardly anybody buying. And its not like he was a yet to be discovered artist. Its just that people didnt think the print was worth $25.
I think its more along the lines of Banksy pulling more "mainstream" attention to the street art scene as a whole (and even a good chunk of that is probably more in credit to Steve LaZarides).

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - Operation Oil Freedom, by bobbymeachamjr on Aug 8, 2007 20:47:37 GMT 1, To me obey creates nice graphics. They look good for a day. Nothing organic. Theres no depth. Nothing to discuss aside from the immediate visual. I had the rare experience of finding his stuff looking BETTER on the computer than in person - I was at his recent NY show. Maybe its because his images are so dependent on computer software that this is so.

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - Operation Oil Freedom, by dave313perry on Aug 8, 2007 20:59:31 GMT 1, As a Graphic designer myself working within the screenprint industry it is they 'nice graphics' that appeals to me. As for depth of discussion, some images just look nice. Were not talking Neate ยฃ1500 prints here were talking $50.
Iv bought and seen several prints recently that have had provocative complex imagery but have been produced to such a poor print quality that it detracts from the image, at least to the trained eye anyway!
Atleast obey prints are crisp, percise and professionaly executed even if they are a little polished and processed in some peoples eyes. Im no art critic but i can tell you if an image has been slapped onto a piece of paper without any consideration after the initial ideas or if its been articulately consider right down until the final Screen. For this reason i think his work is justified at such a reasonable price, especially when every so often he releases a gem
PEACE

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - Operation Oil Freedom, by slacker on Aug 9, 2007 13:03:13 GMT 1, Yeah, I kinda agree, but at $35 U.S., it's not a bad choice even if you only like it a bit. Im not sold on it, but I wont miss the $35 So buy something because of the name even though it sucks... Nice!
i know and i often think the same but i am pretty much always a slow burner when it comes to deciding whether i like prints and at the moment there isn't too much opportunity to spend a couple of weeks deciding whether you like a print before you buy.
i haven't actually sold on any of my prints to date but i can see it coming with a couple of fairey prints i have bought in the last couple of months. at ยฃ32 delivered it is worth buying if you think that you might like it on initial viewing.
i have paid a fortune lately for prints that i couldn't decide whether i liked them enough to buy until after they had sold out. i wouldn't pay over ยฃ100 for anything that i am not sure i will like but under that amount it is worth taking a chance.
