Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by mrpotatochips on Nov 27, 2020 15:53:03 GMT 1, I have a pink emoji going for cost plus postage if anyone missed out. I've realised I've spent a bit too much this close to Christmas so unfortunately need to let go one of my recent purchases.
Let me know if anyone is interested. Based in London.

Iโm just going to guess they will be 000

Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by Sir Ruddington on Feb 1, 2021 22:37:36 GMT 1, Mine just arrived and I am....disappointed. Yes, yes, yes, it is my fault for not analytically figuring every detail out before succumbing to my desire to buy it.
1. no room to store gigantic tube whether or not I end up displaying the sculpture. Still needs to be stored for potential future storage/transport. 2. sculpture will require a custom and expensive display - too big for any off the shelf display and I cannot afford to spend more on a display than the item itself. 3. packaging itself will require special storage if sculpture is to be displayed. Never even considered that. Tiny ding to the thin plastic sheath - bye, bye value.
I thought I would open this and plunk it under an Ikea cloche with or without the packaging. I really wish they would have made it smaller or figured out how to work the packaging into potential display options. The sculpture itself is excellent, no complaints there. They should have thought about owners who don't live in vast spaces with inexhaustible financial resources.
I know I am at fault and I know others will tear me apart but I feel like crap looking at what is sitting in front of me.

Plenty of ways to get creative imo. I'm doing the following to reduce costs and display.
i'm re-using original plastic cover. If you flip the plastic reverse you can put the syringe so it's sitting elevated. Then i'm just using double sided tape to get the COA/Information displayed like it came shipped and adding a simple white frame to cover up packaging base. Cutting out just the area in reverse where the tube is, and adding an led strip to illuminate it from reverse, propped up on a couple acrylic book holders.
$55

I am happy to look at any and all alternatives that are not cost prohibitive. I found "doll stands" today while googling for a solution, looks promising. Then throw it into a bell jar or simple clear tube depending on what I can find with the right dimensions locally. I would like to light it but doubt that'll happen.

Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by Sir Ruddington on Feb 2, 2021 21:12:54 GMT 1, Well, I will be honest. I am not in a financial position to buy art solely for its beauty. If I could, my house would be filled to the rafters and I wouldn't give a toss about framing, presentation or packaging.
The vast majority of artwork that I allow myself to buy after kids' shoes, food, bills are accounted for, has to be done with the thought in mind that one day I might be able to recoup at least a portion of what I paid for it. I know that there is no certainty in this regard but it is a criteria that I must fulfill when deciding on what to buy - yes, I am nuts.
In order to do this, maintaining good condition of the pieces and in this case in particular, the packaging as well must be taken into account. I would like nothing more than to take the syringe and stick in on a table and chuck out the packaging and never think about it again. I just can't do that.
Lesson learned. I will be more careful in the future and hopefully one day, the need to worry about counting every penny won't be so predominant. In the meantime, please post up your presentation ideas.

Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by misterx on Feb 3, 2021 1:34:25 GMT 1, If you are buying art to make money and not just for its beauty, yet are struggling with the costs of life, may I respectfully suggest buying art may not be the answer to your woes...
My Syringe is just sat on a shelf, mate, next to two Lollies.
Don't understand why you cant do the same?
Why the need for an "expensive display" when you cant afford it?
Don't think I've ever seen a post on here where the buyer of a piece of art bemoans the size of the packaging...packaging done in such a way as to protect said art that said buyer implies is very important to him, monetarily...
Nuts indeed!

I'm a big fan of nice framing, but also like finding ways to display little things. Started off my collection with lots of cheap home made pieces from brochures, novelties, posters. Last week I was bored so I ordered a couple sheets of magnets and made fridge magnets with the last Peeta Sticker Release from Invader. They came out great and the magnets cost less than $5, just needed that and a razor.

I feel you. I got a quote to get a print matted and framed, and I said โfor that price, you can go buy frame wood, a miter saw, several huge sheets of matt board AND custom cut anti glare UV plexi.... which is true and what Iโm trying to do these these days. Kind of sad that it actually seems more practical than going to a framer.

Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by Inknart on Feb 3, 2021 16:57:30 GMT 1, I still don't understand why people are framing these syringes. They're sculptures. You don't normally frame sculptures, do you? Hot take... If you see how these come packaged you'd understand that getting creative is necessary. The packaging isn't really display friendly and the COA acts as an important part of the pieces aesthetic. Reversing the package and framing out the excess plastic was the cheapest remedy I could think of. I'll post pics when back from framer and i'm sure it will help the conceptualization
I still don't understand why people are framing these syringes. They're sculptures. You don't normally frame sculptures, do you? Hot take... If you see how these come packaged you'd understand that getting creative is necessary. The packaging isn't really display friendly and the COA acts as an important part of the pieces aesthetic. Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by kapusta on Feb 3, 2021 17:41:35 GMT 1, Also, framing these prevents them from toppling over. These are tall and if you're placing them in a high traffic area, I'd worry about knocking it over.

Reversing the package and framing out the excess plastic was the cheapest remedy I could think of. I'll post pics when back from framer and i'm sure it will help the conceptualization I already have one of these syringes from the first batch of sales, so I know how they come packaged. I took mine out of the packaging and placed it on a coffee table in my lounge. You're right that the packaging is not display-friendly but why would anyone want to display the cheap, plastic packaging? - or the CoA come to that. I've never felt the urge to display CoAs and I doubt I ever will. But, yeah, post your pics when it's done so we can all take a look. I may end up changing my mind. ;-) The COA seems like it is part of the Artwork.... it's packaged to resemble a medical grade syringe with little details relating to piece/dosage etc. It's important for the overall context of this piece imo. Not sure I would want to just sit it on a table without it.
Below is exactly how i set mine, with double sided tape to the COA and a simple white frame around the border. Easy to visualize with that picture. I cut out the back of the packaging behind the tube portion for lighting. Frame covers up excess plastic at base. You'll never know its even in plastic or see it with frame.

Miss Bugs Do No Harm Syringe, by Sir Ruddington on Feb 4, 2021 0:09:29 GMT 1, Lots of confusion about semantics. If I used the word framed at any point, it was in error. I believe I repeatedly said presented or presentation. I do not care if this piece ends up in a shadow box, on a table or perched on the peak of my roof. The point is that it needs to be displayed in a manner that allows it to be viewed AND kept safe. Simply standing it on end only accomplishes one of those things. Even if I did not have a wife, kids and a dog, the simple acts of day to day living mean this thing would eventually meet its demise by presenting without secondary support of some sort. The sheer size, shape, and balance of it creates logistical challenges. Then the packaging must be considered as well because eventually this thing will need to be shifted, whether it is for $1 or $200 matters not to me.
To the detractors of my previous post regarding keeping this or any sculpture safe and in good condition, please answer me this. Do you dry mount your prints, or drive nails through canvases, or store your art next to the furnace or under a sink? Heck, it is just a bit of fun anyway right so why not?
