Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by snare on Oct 25, 2007 10:27:50 GMT 1, I have just found a Banksy-designed Clown skateboards t shirt in the back of my wardrobe. It is navy blue with three small yellow prints of the shooting clown on the front which are connected by dotted lines showing the 'bullets' tragectory and a little logo on one of the sleeves too. The label in the back of the neck has the same logo. It is in far from mint condition. Think its got a tiny little blim hole on it somewhere and I wore it clubbing a few times so the pits are ever so slightly crusty. I seem to remember buying it freom a skate shop in Manchester in about 2000 or 2001.
It is definitely a genuine Banksy and probably one of the first pieces of commercial work he did.
Is there much interest in stuff like this? I can post some pics if you want.
Are there many of these shirts about? I presume Clown isn't going any more.
Did Banksy ever made any 'official' clothing, or is this the only way to wear a genuine Banksy?
Just interested. Thanks in advance if you can help.

not sure if trying any skate shops would help, you never know they may have one lying about. try slam city skates or SS20,
good luck with your search

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by Deleted on Aug 13, 2014 13:48:35 GMT 1, I got an email from a guy with said above asking if I'd any idea what a mint one would be worth, I haven't a clue but if anyone does I'll pass it on. email. I have an original Clown Skateboards deck for which Banksy did the graphics for in the late 90's, he did a few graphics for Clown and also their company logo. The graphic I have is the clown holding 2 guns.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by met on Aug 13, 2014 19:48:25 GMT 1, I had one once, then skated it................. Good, thats what it was for, loads more enjoyment out of it than banging it up on the wall. Same nonsense with keeping invasion kits in their bags etc.... Last year, I was able to have a quick chat with Invader.
I'd been interested in hearing his thoughts on the paradox resulting from his Invasion Kits having increased significantly in value over the years: The kits kept sealed are more desirable to collectors than those where the packaging has been opened and the tiles are cemented to walls or just framed. In other words, the active and more visually-appealing way of promoting the invasion is now, in effect, financially discouraged.
An easy comparison can be made with comic book collectors who keep their rare, sought-after first editions in archival conditions instead of reading and enjoying them as regular comic books.
Invader's response was that, for him, the kits are conceptual pieces โ rather than artworks in the traditional sense necessarily intended to be exhibited. The importance lies in the idea, more so than the visual presentation of the idea.
In this respect, Invader had no issue with Invasion Kits being left intact as complete kits, sealed and unviewed in a drawer. He felt such a decision by collectors, and different way of appreciating the kits, was just as valid as removing the assembled tiles from their packaging and hanging them up.
It was a perspective I had not previously considered.

From an artists point of view I can see where he is coming from, creating something physical from an idea etc, but as a collector, it misses me.... appreciated by being left intact in a drawer? The whole comic thing also fails me, as an investmant fine keep them sealed, but if I bought a comic, I'd want to read it, a nice bottle of whisky, I'd want to taste it......I'll be honest, I just dont get it.
Then again, how it differs from having prints in a folio? probably not one bit.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by bonesy on Aug 13, 2014 20:19:19 GMT 1, I spent a lot of time searching for one in 2007-2008 or so, even hitting up the skate deck collector forums and was never able to find one. Certainly very few of these decks out there but at this point I think I would be apprehensive to buy one, would be easy to fake as someone has pointed out. If anyone makes some, Ill buy
