Christie's Art Auctions , by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Apr 17, 2014 21:59:19 GMT 1, $23,000 for a signed CND. Nuts. Pre 2010 you could get that on ebay for what $6 or 7k maybe??? The derth of Banksy releases over the past several years have really driven prices up. I regretfully sold a couple in the past, I practically gave them away by today's prices, but back then I figured I'd probably be able to score more in the future from POW. Don't believe that will ever happen again now. I have 4 prints left and it would take a serious amount of dough to get me to part with them now.
Yes they keep increasing, so what does a donut go for these days?

Christie's Art Auctions , by lee3 on May 15, 2014 1:37:14 GMT 1, ^ It went unsold and was bid/chandeliered to $260k and then passed. I found it surprising as I thought it would appeal for a variety of reasons and with hindsight i could not have been more wrong. To my eyes that is exponentially better than the Rembrandt piece Phillips was able to get ~$700k for recently but I don't make the rules. Given that it stopped at 260, I presume the reserve was 270/280 hammer (+ 50ish for premium). Since nobody was interested at 330, perhaps 280-300 all in (which is not to suggest that's not a ton of money) could get it done post sale but pure speculation on my part.

I was surprised it didn't sell too. A strong piece in my eyes, much better than others that have sold for more, but who knows anymore. One of the under-bidders (friend) is now in talks with Christies and I suspect it's not far from being sold post sale as Lee suggested. I wonder how auctions decide when to be flexible on the fees, and with whom.

I would hardly call it cheap. I'm not in the least bit surprised that you have though.
Much respect to Stik for helping raise so much money for the charity. That's what's important.

It wouldn't be 20% VAT on hammer, just BP When I was on the phone with Christies they said BP was 25% and then there would be an additional VAT charge. I checked the listing and it said 20% VAT to be added to the hammer.
So I presume you're looking at an additional 45%, unless Christies changed their mind and decided to only have a 5% BP which I very highly doubt.

VAT is only charged on Christies revenue i.e. the BP, rather than on hammer. To charge 45% on hammer would be ridiculous
