Christie's Art Auctions , by robo on Mar 30, 2021 19:06:53 GMT 1, 4(b) Refusal of Bidding: Christie's reserves the right, in our absolute discretion, to reject, revoke or refuse to honour any bid (even those that have been previously accepted) or, whether during or after the sale, to restart or continue the bidding. Wow - they are a law unto themselves
Quite the opposite, this is literally the legal terms you are signing up to when you bid. Anyone has the option not to accept these rules and not to bid. But also, this was an unusual situation and Christies have really done the best they can to resolve it and give a fair outcome for sellers. Also bidders who were happy to win the item for £x might still win the item for £x or a bit more - but at least it will be fair market price not web crash anomaly.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Deleted on Mar 30, 2021 19:25:04 GMT 1, Protect his market place at all costs. The boo hoo worked.. Listen I have banksys , better results = more money for me. I guess I’m just less bothered than others and would love his market to be ‘sensible’ No, it's about protecting the sellers, not the market. Look at the member here that bought a print for a few quid because he 'liked' the image and entered it into this auction. It's only right to extend the time to have a fair outcome. It's not always about you ya know😉

Christie's Art Auctions , by billybob1969 on Mar 30, 2021 19:33:53 GMT 1, Little to no mention of the higher results on this auction (Stop & Search, Nola, etc). Everyone's focused on the ones that finished below expected and calling foul play. Christies site has not been hacked - I bid on two lots a few mins before the auction ended without an issue using Chrome. The problem is people here seem to think they can snipe a piece by bidding in the last 15 seconds using an out-of-date browser and wonder why their bid doesn't get registered in time. Let's see where things go in the next 48 hours - just don't leave it too late. Not the case, with some lots it wasn't possible to bid (ie there was no bid button!) despite there being minutes left Yeah exactly, there was 3mins 30 left on the lot I was bidding on and no bidding button, some later lots seemed ok.

Not good for anyone involved

Christie's Art Auctions , by billybob1969 on Mar 30, 2021 19:38:08 GMT 1, I think it’s really tough on Christie’s and perhaps if it had only impacted a few lots they should have moved on but from what I’m hearing it was a widespread problem that impacted multiple lots and bidders, I think on balance it’s the right thing to do. I know it’s frustrating for winning bidders but if you’re bid is really fair market value then you’ll still be buying it in 48 hours, if not then it’s only fair bidders that were prevented from bidding have their chance for both sellers and the buyers impacted by the technical issues.

I was thinking the same, people using it like ebay in the hope of sniping in the last 10 secs on a site that isn't really designed for that. The site should be able to handle bids in the last 15 seconds or whatever. Isn't that the whole point of extending the clock if last minute bids are coming in?

Yeah, it's an odd one, I thought it might just be us fanboys hammering refresh on a Banksy auction, but apparently they had the same issue the day before.

Christie's Art Auctions , by woodman on Mar 30, 2021 22:19:48 GMT 1, Wow - they are a law unto themselves Quite the opposite, this is literally the legal terms you are signing up to when you bid. That's all good and well, but what protection does the buyers have? When pieces are in an auction it is a gamble for a seller, and a buyer will hope they get a bargain. The seller hopes there are multiple buyers all wanting the same piece and get an inflated price, and the buyers are hoping the opposite. At what point can Christies (or any auction house), just say "we don't like the selling price so are going to add some more time to it, look at our T&Cs"?
It seems there were issues as reported by numerous people on here, but that is Christies problem, and I don't think the buyers should be penalised. Will the next piece that goes for a lower amount than expected be cancelled, or the one after? Surely they can find out what listings were affected, and even if they accepted the hammer price, they could have offered all the premiums to the sellers etc and took a hit themselves, rather than go down this route?
Great for sellers who will earn a bit more, but ultimately it seems the decision is even better for Christies.

They’re going for around £1500 actually, and will likely surpass Banksy’s value over time. More appealing since wanks don’t obsess over him and just enjoy it for what it is. Art.

Christie's Art Auctions , by The Greased Piglet on Mar 31, 2021 0:17:32 GMT 1, Don’t worry still plenty of Robbo prints for £50 They’re going for around £1500 actually, and will likely surpass Banksy’s value over time. More appealing since wanks don’t obsess over him and just enjoy it for what it is. Art. Haha, thanks needed a chuckle.

You don’t think works by an artist Banksy had killed will appreciate over time?
Interesting.

If data, math and history have anything to do with it, I’d say no....not at all. With respect to Robbo, dude has been dead for quite some time now. If his prints were going to do anything, they would’ve by now. Quite a few more historically relevant, long deceased graf artists whose work also isn’t valuable. Again with respect to Robbo, he’s not next.

Christie's Art Auctions , by King Robbo Lives on Mar 31, 2021 2:18:46 GMT 1, Data, math, and history shows Banksy works are akin to the Tulip frenzy.
Mind you the mate is still around, ready to pump out editions of 1000 (or more).
