Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by gerry on Dec 13, 2007 10:41:01 GMT 1, Writing a blog on this last night, realised the best comparison for price change yesterday was the 'paranoid pictures' piece. One from the edition sold in June for £36k, the one yesterday sold for £23,300, almost £13k down.
Guess it could be that there was only one person out there who liked the image, and time of year a factor perhaps too, but having a nagging doubt that the reasons behind this could be bigger and more systemic.

Or the one yesterday wasn't in mint condition...
It means a lot having something in mint condition and having something as follows: Condition: This work is in good condition. There is minor wear to all four corner tips. There are faint rub marks notably to the top and bottom extreme edges. There are patches of light discolouration intermittently throughout. There are a few tiny media accretions towards the top right corner and one minute media accretion towards the top left corner. No restoration is apparent under ultra-violet light.
£13k difference? Maybe... I know if I had £20-£30k to spend on one I'd want it mint

I remember some news story about it a couple of months back. Nice return on his investment. Should be enough there to pay the loan back !

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by wezzley on Jun 18, 2007 22:50:23 GMT 1, pretty much, yeah....
fag packet calculation; say he got £65k after auction fees;
£9200 annual allowance in 07/08, so a taxable gain of £55,800
first 2k at 10% - £200 next 30k at 22% - £6600 remaining 24k at 40% - £9,600
total capital gains tax - £16,500 -
But - thing is though.....if he is earning a salary, that will have used up the lower % rat bands & he will probably have to pay 40% on all of the gain - ie like £22k of tax.
sucks eh..!

Not sure, would have to check though

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by wezzley on Jun 18, 2007 23:23:20 GMT 1, I know my s**t on this one mate... I'm facing the same problem
dont matter if you sold the day after buying - you gotta pay the man.
You can pay less the longer you have had them for though - 10% less of the gain is taxable if youve owned it for 5 years......up to 40% off if you had it for 10 years.
