Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by gerry on Dec 13, 2007 10:41:01 GMT 1, Writing a blog on this last night, realised the best comparison for price change yesterday was the 'paranoid pictures' piece. One from the edition sold in June for Β£36k, the one yesterday sold for Β£23,300, almost Β£13k down.
Guess it could be that there was only one person out there who liked the image, and time of year a factor perhaps too, but having a nagging doubt that the reasons behind this could be bigger and more systemic.

Or the one yesterday wasn't in mint condition...
It means a lot having something in mint condition and having something as follows: Condition: This work is in good condition. There is minor wear to all four corner tips. There are faint rub marks notably to the top and bottom extreme edges. There are patches of light discolouration intermittently throughout. There are a few tiny media accretions towards the top right corner and one minute media accretion towards the top left corner. No restoration is apparent under ultra-violet light.
Β£13k difference? Maybe... I know if I had Β£20-Β£30k to spend on one I'd want it mint

Yep, I think that it's a great piece. I imagine that the Hirst/ Banksy mix will see it do very well at auction too.

Red uses Sotheby's auction to move upmarket
4 December 2008
The Aids charity (Product) Red is to organise a fundraising auction at Sotherby's in New York.
Red, famously backed by U2 frontman Bono, is hoping to raise up to Β£10 million through the sale of art work donated by artists such as Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Banksy.
Red supports the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a Swiss foundation championed by former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.
However, the auction marks a change of direction for Red, which has previously focused on the sale of merchandise such as T-shirts and watches with commercial partners.
Red's Chief Executive, Susan Smith Ellis, told the Wall Street Journal the Valentine's Day auction is intended to change perceptions of the brand and take it more upmarket.
The brand needs "oxygen", she said.
Works donated to the auction include a medicine cabinet by Damien Hirst estimated at up to $7 million; a red balloon-animal sculpture by Jeff Koons and a Jasper Johns watercolor estimated at up to $600,000.
Other donors include the British artists Antony Gormley and Tracy Emin.

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by ed on Feb 6, 2008 16:04:16 GMT 1, I was wondering what everyones opinion would be on the upcoming london sothebys show, in light of the Bonhams prices last night.
As previously posted ( banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=ebaychat&action=display&thread=1199740264&page=1 ) I'm due to sell some of my art this month to get outta debt etc.
Would it be worthwhile now approaching Sothebys to see if any of my stuff can get added to their auction? Not really very knowledgable on this subject.

You can try, but I imagine it is closed now (catalogues printed etc)... The Bonhams one was closed before Christmas (I know as I wanted to put a couple of things in)

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by RBK on Feb 6, 2008 17:58:40 GMT 1, Sorry to break it to all you people dreaming up selling your collections for vast sums...
but the typcial auction cycle is you need to have your piece earmarked/approved for inclusion in an auction approx 3-4 months before it occurs.
And unless you have some an incredbile banger of a canvas - it wouldn't even make the Sothebys Feb. auction.
