From the invitation to appropriate the site to the invasion of the city: an extensive exhibition.

Invader has made the MaMo the strategic base - workshop and keystone - of a large-scale exhibition-invasion, and the irradiation point of its action of disseminating mosaics in the city. Overflowing from the art center, the artistic project innervates and encompasses the local territory, with a tribute to the Phocaean city and its Mediterranean culture.

By stretching the format of the exhibition to that of the invasion, "INVADER WAS HERE" operates a mise abyme of the notion of in situ, which is at the heart of the artist's approach and the programming of the MaMo.

At the Cité Radieuse, the visitor discovers the MaMo transformed into an original installation-workshop bearing the imprint of the modus operandi of the artist who worked on it in secret this summer: Invader was here... Maps, drawings, tools, masks and costumes: the installation is the test-place of the use of the site as an operational nerve center.

From this workshop, the specifically created mosaics were disseminated: first around the MaMo; then, further on, a monumental "I invade MARS" is visible from the roof terrace; finally, the invasion continues throughout Marseille.

From the Calanques to Notre-Dame de la Garde, via the Old Port, l'Estaque, la Corniche, the northern districts, the Cours Julien or les Baumettes..., Invader has applied his concept of "urban acupuncture" which proposes an exploration of a territory, via strategically placed works.

A dedicated "Invasion Map" allows to follow the steps of the artist in the city, and to visualize the extent of the intervention.
Each mosaic is unique - colors, composition and size - and has been thought according to its location in Marseille, the spirit of the place, the local culture; it is recognizable by its pixelated style, derived from the 8-bit low-tech aesthetics that Invader has chosen to associate, first and foremost, with a technique in use since antiquity: mosaic art. The chromatic range, an ode to the Mediterranean, is essentially worked in shades of blue contrasting with white; it is Corbuséan at the Cité Radieuse.

In addition to space invaders, many motifs evoke regional themes and emblems of popular culture, while injecting visual puns, poetic notes or reinventing points of view on the city through the enhancement of unusual sites.

The artistic invasion is consequent: Marseille became the second largest city invaded in France by Invader, after Paris. An intense physical challenge of an operation carried out incognito in a highly frequented city in the middle of summer...

This exceptional carte blanche is to be discovered in the perspective of the cycle initiated at MaMo by Ora Ito, which proposes each year to a major artist to realize an in situ installation.
