Up and coming artists to collect?, by cest on Oct 2, 2020 11:09:19 GMT 1, Well if no one else wants to hype I will. I’m buying a few works from an African artist called Nelson Makomo, I think his work is amazing and he is starting to get into the collections of quite a few celebrities and museums and he did the cover for Time magazine last year. You can pick up his originals for around £1-4k for works on paper and £5–12k for larger canvases. Prints are cheap and still in the £100s. www.nelsonmakamo.com/
Where are you seeing his prints for sale?

I would recommend one of his works on paper as the prints are usually quite small editions and have in the past been well priced so sell out quickly. You can pick up works on paper from auciton for around 1-3k usd for small and medium size work.

Up and coming artists to collect?, by Deleted on Oct 2, 2020 12:31:51 GMT 1, Innocent question but why has someone like say Harland Miller skyrocketed so much? Any ideas as to what differentiates his work? He's witty and easy to understand. Same with David Shrigley. I have no real idea about the machine behind artists, but purely from an appreciation perspective, Harland Miller and David Shrigley do what they do better than most other artists. Lots of artists make work that boils down to joke writing, but very few of them are funny and certainly not in a way that is repeatedly funny. Harland Miller's joke writing is exceptional. 'Health and Safety Is Killing Bondage', 'Incurable Romantic Seeks Dirty Filthy Whore', 'I'll Never Forget What I Can't Remember', 'Tonight We Make History (ps. I Can't Be There) - they're just really good writing. Plus, of course, the Penguin cover is classic design. It's very easy art to enjoy.

No idea if it's signed but looks like a nice cheap print for $60
I've heard they are releasing 50 copies of the print that adorned the front of Time magazine but they are retailing at $5k+

I have a couple of Heliotrope prints and the quality is a bit hit and miss. I mean, for $60 they're great, but worth noting.

I don’t think these are signed, most of his previous prints have been editions of 10 or less. Still for $60 it’s a nice image and probably worth a buy.

Up and coming artists to collect?, by Jokin Jester on Oct 9, 2020 18:30:39 GMT 1, When I browse through the Heliotrope inventory this one def always makes me look twice, good to see a recommendation!
The Heliotrope prints are not the most vibrant and are on thinner paper, but just think of them as nice posters for charity and you'll feel okay. Sometimes they ship with edge damage though, not sure what's up with that.

Up and coming artists to collect?, by Deleted on Oct 9, 2020 21:41:38 GMT 1, Yes true, but I asked In pm if you were referring to me and you said no and apologised, so why the smart arse reply in thread. I don’t expect everyone to like my art but if you don’t like it provide some constructive criticism rather than pointless digs. I would of hoped this forum supported new artists. A lot do but people like you stop me from posting. I’m quite aware my rat print is a blatant blek and banksy mix, but it was asking a question of who is best and the joke of the parachute rat sneaking up on the blek one. I liked it and thought others might, and most of them have sold. I asked blek and banksy if ok with doing that. The asylum seeker print again is not original Imagery but it’s using it in another context. Invader didn’t invent space invaders or pixel art same way banksy wasn’t the first to do rats. I’m still looking for my niche and aim to be more original but feel free to not buy.

Too much anger Take time to read other threads , misinterpretations , smart alecs , banter, Twits , all common from time to time do not think poster was referring to you but he just played along to your comment Chill I bought one of your prints as it’s a fun piece and at prices prints use to be when I first started collecting 😬
Read eyesaw , whatson, Ted Patrick, Outis threads all get a bit out of hand at times , even a banksy thread part of being on a forum Just do not go on Covid effects art market thread👌😬

I hadn't even read your post before I posted my original jokey comment - just assumed that someone was posting a picture of an invader print they bought. So to answer your PM and post asking, "Are you referring to me in your post?" No I wasnt and probably wouldn't have posted if I had known that someone was advertising their own wares.
So why the smartarse response? Because honestly, after I apologized immediately for the misunderstanding, you were a bit annoying with your endless PMs indirectly looking for validation, worried that someone would think that I was belittling your work.
The original poster was looking for affordable art that was likely going to go up in value and then people proceeded to plug random nobodies including their own brother's work. That's what the joke was about.
All the best to you and I wish you luck in the art business. For better visibility, you might want to create a separate thread to showcase your work. If people like it, you might gain an audience here and beyond. I think a few artist careers have gone that way on UAA.

Up and coming artists to collect?, by qwerty on Oct 9, 2020 23:41:17 GMT 1, Well if no one else wants to hype I will. Prints are cheap and still in the £100s. www.nelsonmakamo.com/ like his style, thanks for the intro 😎
