Paypal Advice, by Richy Rich on Oct 19, 2020 13:00:56 GMT 1, Hello forum,
I am considering sending a print from the UK to Korea. I plan to send this via an insured service.
What steps do I need to take to make sure there are no issues with receiving the paypal payment as this is all new to me and I don't want to get scammed!
(If the buyer is reading no offence meant I have never sent anything abroad before!)
thanks

Some good advice I found here urbanartassociation.com/thread/158785/buying-art-on-forum
One step is to only accept paypal "goods and services" payment option to have some protection, sending "friends and family" payment option is not protected if something was to go wrong. You do pay additional fees this way but better to have protection in this way.

Paypal Advice, by mrizzle on Oct 19, 2020 13:42:01 GMT 1, I may have misinterpreted this but I think the advice above is better suited to you as a buyer than to you as a seller.
In truth, PayPal favours the buyer over the seller and it does open you up to a potentially fraudulent claim by a buyer. Should they raise a dispute then funds will be automatically removed from your account until any dispute is settled. From memory, they have 20 days to raise this claim. Someone may be able to confirm, or a Google search will.
When sending, document/retain all shipping information, including tracking info and status. This will help prevent a claim that it wasnโt received. I would also recommend photographing (date stamped if possible, though your phone camera will do this automatically) the print at various stages of packing to show it undamaged. This is useful should they claim it was revived damaged and also should you need to raise an insurance claim.
Lastly, itโs really largely down to trust. Do some due diligence regarding your buyer and establish trust as best you can. If you feel uneasy or concerned then donโt proceed. Iโd take a gamble on a lower cost print but not on something of higher value.
Hope that helps a little and GLWTS.

Yes you are correct I am a seller so this info is really great!

Do not send this with royal mail or parcelforce.
use one of the couriers - ups or fedex via parcel2go (or other sites like it) They also collect from your front door. You get what you pay for
royal mail is not fully tracked and will take weeks or months currently. Plus it uses different services the other end and commmercial flights on airlines
Couriers use their own planes and only handled by one company so less chance of issues

Paypal Advice, by J6507G on Oct 19, 2020 14:01:17 GMT 1, Can't comment on Royal mail for posting outside of the UK.... But within UK royal mail special delivery... Is the only courier service I would use. There's a reason jewellers also send jewellery and watches using royal mail special delivery. (granted they have enhanced cover) but generally nothing ever goes missing. The special delivery parcels are segregated from the common Post. And track able from the moment you drop off at post office and status updated every step of the way.. PayPal also recognises rm sd as a verified courier so as a seller if yoy do use them to send you have a lot stronger case. (they also offer max 2500 sender insurance too... Thanks.

Paypal Advice, by J6507G on Oct 19, 2020 14:02:49 GMT 1, ... And I forgot to mention the recipient is also signing to say its been received in good condition by the postie... So if you get anything sent and there is any doubt, parcel feels too light, or packaging damaged etc... Open infront of the postman.

With higher value items, shipping is always a risk. Insurance wont' help much if the package is received by your husband/wife/neighbour and they accept a damaged package. Happened to me a couple times on a small value items.

Did the buyer ask you to send and mark as a poster with a value of ยฃ110 and to state its a gift? If so I believe it to be a potential scam. If you do send make sure its fully insured and declared correctly.

I wouldn't be quite so quick to judge although it does pay to be careful these days. ย In the past I have asked sellers to state the value as something low because import charges can be such a huge additional expense. And I'm not a scammer, I assure you.ย No judgement here....but on this occasion the same seller has bought the same item from different sellers and sent the same message.
