Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by the only texas pete on Nov 11, 2020 19:31:00 GMT 1, This is Mason's version on top of Banksy's version, with 50% opacity applied to Masons version: imgur.com/imiOciTAs you can see the alignment isn't perfect, but that could simply be because of the angles the photo was taken at. Seems like an exact copy besides the extra monkey added to the middle row.
So he must be Banksy? If his is identical? 🤪

Or... he just traced it and added an extra monkey, LOL
Who knows..... just was interested to see how closely the line up.... and they are VERY. VERY. CLOSE.

The blurb says ‘it was a reference for another painting’. From that I presume it’s a preliminary/working sketch?

Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by brycepen on Nov 12, 2020 2:11:14 GMT 1, A lot of artists do indeed sketch or do studies in oil. A great portrait painter who I buy from always does it. He is definitely not dumb! e.g. I agree in part. Let’s spend a minute talking about what technical skill really means. With enough time spent and a lot of prep work (grid lines, projectors, pre “sketches”, etc. etc.), literally anyone can produce something that appears to involve technical skill. But does it really mean they have great technical skills? No. It means they have a lot of time and patience and probably money.... anyone that “sketches” in artist grade oils is full of crap or doesn’t care about wasting expensive resources. They are also a bit dumb because oils aren’t made for “sketching”. Things that take skill: 1.) Producing realistic images with speed, freehanded, or using minimal gridding/sketching underneath. 2.) Producing vibrant colors and textures without having to use a thousand types of brushes and more than 5 different tubes of color (excluding black and white). If you can’t mix colors, you don’t have technical skill in my book. 3.) Knowing that a piece of art is in fact a COMPOSITION, not a fractional section of an idea.
This is different. Namely, the oil sketch is the final work of art itself, not some preliminary version produced separately from the final piece. It sounds like this is the general style of the artist, which is lovely and absolutely normal.
Edit: you will also notice that the aforementioned piece also has a lot of the qualities I listed as “things that take skill”

What i'm trying to say here is that (some) artists do oil studies all the time. Simon in particular does them for tons of stuff, he also does watercolour sketches as well. NB: the oil sketch in my other post is unfinished and not the final piece of work.
This is the study.

I think this re hashing is painted a lot more crudely than the original MP The blurb says ‘it was a reference for another painting’. From that I presume it’s a preliminary/working sketch? Yes but if it was a preliminary sketch it wouldn't line up exact with the final work. There would be some form of compositional / scaling changes, even if just slight, as it moves to the final piece.
This suggests that the "preliminary sketch" actually came after the final work.

I wasn’t suggesting it was a study or preliminary sketch of the Monkey Parliament canvas we are all familiar with.

Pauvre france ! I mean lost in translation sorry ;-)
So, what does that mean ? That he took a photo of the original in Bristol museum - under another angle - and that he painted it over ?

Well this is new information to me. The idea of an oil study seems like an expensive waste of time. But that oil study just looks like a slightly different version of the final “piece”..... and he did sell it to you ... that kind of makes it a finished piece in my head.
I don’t even want to show people my practice pieces, much less sell them. I don’t really see the study as a precursor or practice piece. Sorry, I just don’t get it.

Guess it’s down to the artist, some do sell studies and preliminary sketches, some don’t. Personally I really like them, feels like there’s something intimate about them as it’s often the first time the idea is put to paper. This is the preliminary sketch of Paco Pomets, Front Page. It’s rich in its sparseness and thought stage for the piece. The fact that he doesn’t often sell sketches at this stage of the work makes it even more disireable as a collector.

Not for the poster itself ( I don't care of the walue ) , but as all collectors, this one is missing to my collection of posters - as stickers ( VIP is missing too , I have all the others )... I have not Don't panic posters too...
Anyway, the question is : is this part of Parliament could be the Missing Link, for those that dit not had the chance to buy the poster ? Why not ! This one is singed anyway MS

Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by Frndly Fire on Nov 12, 2020 12:44:32 GMT 1, I got one. I was at Bristol and picked up the poster all those years ago. In my mind there’s a slim chance he had a hand in the original in some way. More importantly I like it, and it it compliments the poster. Finally, it’s good talking point (and I like boring people with the back stories for the shit on my walls).

Hi Lroy, if I’m honest yes I don’t understand a lot of your messages but not being rude - simply don’t understand. Anyway I for one have bought one and I asked the question because I couldn’t work out if people generally think it’s a good print or not! I for one think it is and I’ve bought lots of artworks from people who have nicked blatant ideas from other artists ( inc one or two of the most mentioned on this forum) but I buy because I like it - end of! I’ve had banksys and bleks and still a fan of both even though clearly one has taken another’s ideas in lots of ways. I don’t see this as a bad thing because of artists have done it for decades. I always remember one thing - buy because you like it not because of what others will say. Have a great day

Have a great day Thank you ! Well written ! I understood all of your post ! You speak good English
Am I in the 50 % that you don't understand ?
Or is it the " Technical " critics ? or " how to paint this " explanations ? etc etc...
We can find all in this thread ! as in a parliament session !
Hi Lroy, if I’m honest yes I don’t understand a lot of your messages but not being rude - simply don’t understand. Anyway I for one have bought one and I asked the question because I couldn’t work out if people generally think it’s a good print or not! Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by hjc0114 on Nov 12, 2020 13:13:19 GMT 1, 2 possible scenarios: 1) Mason was part of the Banksy collective that created Monkey Parliament and for some reason has decided to break rank (and certainly an NDA), as well as making it so he surely could never be in the collective again,so that he can sell out a print 2) Mason wasn't part of the Banksy collective that created Monkey Parliament, and has copied the image so that he can sell out a print. Mason Storm has never ever been a part of the "the crew" and he has absolutely nothing to do with painting of the Monkey Parliament piece, and anyone who is trying to convince others otherwise is a shitehawk
Call me inspector gadget or whatever you want but didn’t Mason have the Asylum II show that had 2 Banksy pieces in it? There is also pics out there where he seems pretty chummy with Eine who is the closest person to Banksy being he did a show with him (that didn’t really show much if any eine work) and saying he flew to Australia with Banksy and painted rats all over Sydney in 2003. I think it’s safe to say he’s close to the “crew”
