Did you not see the video Mason posted a while back to prove he can paint?

It did the exact opposite. The man holds a paint brush like a 5 year old.

ZERO chance he painted these. China anyone?

The spread of this nonsense is regrettable.

Such posts go beyond harmless cretinism. They are irresponsible, because they amount to misinformation — or (depending on the knowledge and intent of the individual who's posting) disinformation.

What must also be borne in mind is the potential cumulative impact the comments may have on less-experienced art enthusiasts, especially when seen to originate from multiple sources, which may in turn enhance perceived reliability.



Apart from being false, there is a broader issue with these comments:

They risk encouraging collectors to be more unquestioning, rather than put in the effort by actually studying the paintings. To be credulous, rather than critically-minded. And therefore to be dupes, ripe for the picking by the scores of shady sellers happy to lighten their wallets and purses.

[It seems almost as nefarious as assuring an orphaned child, "Yes, that medium and psychic really does have the power to communicate with your dead mother. And a 10‑minute Zoom chat with them would only cost you £200."]



The reasoning presented is often as basic as the following:

"Yes, Mason Storm is of course an incredibly talented painter. See for yourself! Look at all of these impressive, finished canvases with his signature on them."


Now, there will always be people who simply accept statements like this at face value, especially if it's what they wish to hear. Some of them might even have a pretty good eye — and, if less blinkered, could otherwise have spotted the painting styles of different hands within the body of work attributed to Storm.

I would argue those individuals are their own worst enemies. They could benefit from being given a good shake. Or perhaps a good slap. Or maybe they are just fools, beyond salvation.

Smoke and mirrors

Being a successful artist and having assistants is completely different to blatently ripping one off.  

There's a difference between the skills required to create a mosaic tiled 8 bit figure and a dutch old master.
No One doubts invaders ability to create his pieces or Banskys stencils. They do question Banskys ability to paint monkey parliament and maybe even some of the sketches, But Storm is making a living off the suggestion he painted it without any evidence he can actually paint. I've called that out before and he then produced some process shots which tell us nothing. If he does a video showing me him painting an old master style or painting one monkey then i will be a big fan. Until then he's milking something that cant be proven false. at least by us.

Some cases just arent worth bothering to pursue, they undermine themselves fine on their own. Also, would it be worth spending money to sue you guys? Could you pay? 


When you say we are watching the art market collapse. whats your point? Thats happening to most artists, in a global downturn. It doesnt really add anything to your claims, just seems like a "fun fact" you dropped in for the hell of it. 

Also, why is this so important to you? You have said your no longer a fan, but you also seem somewhat obsessed about this. Your not getting any positive reinforcement here, just drowning in our lack of concern. Your pretty much the only one that even cares, is this really worth your time? What do you hope to achieve here? Do you really think you will? 

Also, if the piece used in the stunt, was a left over from the original edition, how does that alter your viewpoint?
