But I agree that it's a lot, especially if you are buying something for a good few thousand. It's not only a lot for the buyer to pay but it is also a lot for the auction house to receive for basically doing sod all. |

You can't say they do sod all. Staff to pay, catalogues, exhibitions, running of the building e.t.c.
These big auction houses have big overheads.
Small online auctions with no big overheads should reduce the fees.

And then they charge the buyer for...er...catalogues, exhibitions, selling the item. Nice work if you can get it. |

Same applies at Phillips, Christies and Sothebys. You got something that will be tough to sell, they got no time for you.
