Artcurial Art Auctions , by LAZAKY on Jan 22, 2013 17:33:46 GMT 1, It is simply that once again French auctioneers are organising an auction put in place by artists and their agents - nothing else... a good tactic to either create a "quote" and or maintain prices... utter rubbish results! No it has just been bought by someone very famous that doesn't mind about the price... Nothing about french tactic
Fuckin french, they are everywhere...!
hope you enjoyed the auction floub!

Artcurial Art Auctions , by jojo21 on Jan 22, 2013 22:35:40 GMT 1, i am very surprised that a lot of this forum members are shocked by the increasing results of the sale.
yeah street art is more expensive than 5 years ago. today you cant buy an original of fairey for 4000 euros, C215 was 1000 euros a few years ago, etc...
if you are here, on the forum, it means you beleive that this movement is important. so why are you always thinking people are paying too much for the pieces? because they could source the same pieces lower? and so what? who cares? the buyers dont care because they beleive that what they pay X today, they will sell it 5X or 10X in a few years.
banksy and obey are the same as warhol and lichenstein were 40 years ago. and my bet is that they will sell in 30 years the same price as warhol and lichenstein are selling today.
i beleive that street art movement will leave max 10 artists in a few years time, and the question is which ones? everybody has his own opinion but today prices will be a joke later.
i was at the sale today and beleive me there were buyers, no galleries and merchant rebying there lots.
the room was packed, the auction lasted for 4,5 hours, the auctionner was very happy and they will now start to prepare the next one, which will have another success and so on...
so stop thinking that you sold too quickly and start to come back on the market. (just kidding)
i personnally sold 4 pieces and i am very happy with the results.
chineese soldier 37k hammer C215 shepard 4200 hammer Blek small rat 1300 swoon 1700
i remember people on this thread saying it was not going to be a success but sorry it was...
keep your good pieces, one day they will be in museums.

Artcurial Art Auctions , by Cedric Mnich on Jan 23, 2013 10:21:13 GMT 1, Well done Jocelyn !
Being in the room at the beginning I confirm it was packed and many people standing in the back (I was a bit suspicious about a guy next to me in the back, bidding only once on graffiti pieces but never bidding again on the pieces). Many buyers were not even pre-registered. Several pieces have been removed from the auction, kept for the later one (there is another sale planned in June with smaller / lesser pieces (I have 3 pieces planned on that one). Now regarding the prices, maybe some buyers were not genuine ones, buying or bidding to build the value of their protégé but some names certainly don't need that anymore. Prices are now rocketing and there is still room for more valuation... Investors don't trust stockmarkets as much as before and like someone mentioned buying art is allowing escaping fortune tax (and as far as I know, unlike stock markets you don't have to pay a 30% or more tax on profit....). Some day, when some of these pieces hit the million you'll remember these prices and say "F**k I saw that piece go for 15k, XX years ago !" LOL

Also, similar auction few months ago in Marseille was a big flop as all pieces were unsold !
