Fees , by earthlinga2 on Dec 13, 2020 17:49:48 GMT 1, If you are a new customer to a big auction house then they will probably try and rip you off with exorbitant fees. Play hard to get. If you have rare stuff then they will want to sell it and, therefore, they should give you a good discount for choosing them. Buyer's fees on the hammer price is where they make the bulk of their profits.

Fees , by thor on Jan 7, 2021 1:34:05 GMT 1, I recommend Forum auctions as you can negotiate zero seller's fees and they Will even provide shipping and insurance for free if required, good guys and gals to deal with and very helpful so look them up anyone thinking of selling, and also look out for Forums upcoming 'Only Banksy' sale on 27th January as there will be some great pieces coming up !!! Best wishes and good luck with future sales everyone..

Fees , by Onket on Jan 12, 2021 15:47:33 GMT 1, I got absolutely hammered on various fees the one time I sold something through a 'proper' auction house (Bonhams). I regret it and do feel they took advantage, but part of me all the way through knew I obtained the piece free of charge so whatever I got was pure profit. Still wish I'd kept it, though.
My advice- think seriously and negotiate. Don't leave items with them for ages in storage. See if they will allow the use of your own photos. That kind of thing.

They arranged shipping, insurance, covered all costs, and I negotiated a no seller's fee on hammer so yes I'm bloody singing their praises because they deserve it.. Thankyou and best wishes..

Fees , by mj on Jan 12, 2021 17:07:56 GMT 1, Advise need from members who have consigned Banksy prints to a auction house.
Did you sent the Coa with the art work when courier picked up, or you sent later.
Also if sent later was this after the sale or before?
One last question, I live in the EU so will I have to pay any UK tax on the sale and is 5%sellers fee a lot?
Many thanks

Most auction houses would want it prior to sale. In this market I would not expect anyone to have to pay sellers fees....the buyers premiums are high enough. Theoretically you would pay VAT on sellers commission - but then again I dont think you should pay any!

If you are selling a 200K item, I'm sure they'll be happy with a 10% cut.

They kindly said they'd reduce their normal price of 20% down to 15%. Needless to say I decided against consigning with them!

Fees , by JFCC on Jan 14, 2021 12:07:40 GMT 1, Totally mirror the above! 0%!!!
Forum are very good indeed, a class act, helpful efficient and make it easy.
Phillips and Sothebys are likewise but will they and charge you for it if you don't know better. Push hard there is serious competition out there for Banksy works and they will all go to 0%. The big houses may try charge marketing at the big houses, resist is my advice.
The online auctions at the big 3 seem to be the best performers. Bonhams has always been slightly behind for the seller but great to buy from!
100% avoid Tate Ward Online though (enough has been said about the House itself so see the other threads) as that is the worst route to sale.
