You could well be right but we’re seeing the other so called ‘hype’ artists (Nava, Aboudia etc) in almost every sale and their markets are holding up just fine (so far). Having spoken to Toby at Vigo Gallery, there seems to be an insatiable demand for Jordy’s works so finger’s crossed his market will also hold up.

Fwiw I bought a 40 inch by 30 inch piece in 2020 for $5k, and I’m holding. My point is there isn’t a “flood” of his works available, as a member stated earlier. It may seem that way because of how much attention his auctions and sales are getting.

Whether that will lead to an impact on his trajectory as an artist really has to be seen. His more recent animal landscapes are more desirable than his still life works and there are fewer of those available secondary at this moment. Even his still lifes have evolved in the last 12 months.
I'm a big fan and am obviously biased by that.

But, his output was quite substantial (much more than say Nava's was), and over a much longer time frame (at least five years vs maybe one or two), so it's just inevitable that more works will pop up FS. A friend of mine has seven or eight paintings!! I don't know anyone who has more than one Nava (bought at primary).

Always happy to have a nice conversation with you, sunny. I think it’s important to have some proof of said theory, as opposed to trusting someone’s opinions. Why would they lie? Who knows. Perhaps they’re not viewing their statement as a lie, and more so as an opinion that they assume is fact.

It’s just that after almost ten years of daily visits and interaction on this forum, I’ve seen posts like the one above almost every time an artist blows up. A lot of what you’re asking for is internal and not something for open discussion. I’ve seen several being burned and sitting unsold because demand isn’t there. That’s a troubling sign. If you think shill bidding doesn’t happen at auction on this kind of work or on Nava etc., you’re in your own fairy tale and it’s on you to come back to reality. I won’t be able to help you with that. Market manipulation happens at all levels of the strata in the art market.

Ranging from 11k-13k AUD, all smaller than 60 x 50cm. Offering all three for 30k AUD. These seemed to pre-date his still life works and were mainly abstract with the exception of one very raw, black and white flower still life.

There’s quite a few of “those” situations out there (one is this For Sale thread 😂) Who can anyone for selling?? I’m guessing we see more pop up at every auction (and auction house) going forward! Fwiw I bought a 40 inch by 30 inch piece in 2020 for $5k, and I’m holding. My point is there isn’t a “flood” of his works available, as a member stated earlier. It may seem that way because of how much attention his auctions and sales are getting.

Kerwick has been painting forever (compared to these other “in-demand” artists), and galleries didn’t limit production or access until very, very recently, so many people own works. Imagine you had bought a smaller one for $3-5K like 16 months ago, and they’re now selling for $50-75K!? The usual drivel on here as soon as an artist gets a lot of attention! It’s almost always the same when members have missed out on buying before the prices start rolling.

I was more referring to the older style works, that will be being sold off like hot cakes! 😂 I agree his new works look awesome and are very popular. But what's peoples thoughts on pricing on older abstract original (2018) similar to this on one in the link, but a 80 x 65cm canvas with wooden fram?. I strongly believe shill bidding (or intentional manipulation) has and continues to occur. Can I prove it? No. Do I care? no. It's no different than when Banksy works suddenly went up 500% a few years back. Was that shill bidding (People not paying) or a few funds manipulating the market I dont know but prices are back down substantially. Time will tell here. Love the artwork but bet prices are 30-50% off the peak ones a year from now. Time will tell whether or not there was manipulation (there was - always is) and more importantly whether or not it matters.

I just bought one in secondary happily after searching for a month found ONE.. I have been a huge fan for years. He has the most genuine career and is as authentic as it gets in the art market. Very well deserved prices as he is a hard working authentic artist! Am I happy I spent a fortune in secondary? Not as happy as I would be buying years ago. However. That doesn’t mean I bash the reality. You get what you pay for ! I am a Big fan! And I think he will be one of the biggest stars in the art world LONG term!!! All I can say is you know an artist has made it when you see negative talk like this…art is about enjoying good art on the wall…
