Banksy Used Can, by danjc on Jan 7, 2021 14:59:48 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
My dad has a can that was used on the highwayman piece, he was hired to remove the piece and the can was left on the window ledge in which he took it.
Any ideas how much it might be worth? We emailed banksy authentication a year ago but still havenโt heard anything, we provided pictures and also valuable information!
*****We are interested in a valuation and to keep, not to sell unless times were tough****
Banksy piece โThe Highwaymanโ was created in London above a block of offices, the owner of the offices was annoyed at Banksy for painting over his office sign. Banksy got informed that the owner of the business was unhappy so he painted โtake this as a signโ onto the building behind, smart move.
As the owner had full ownership of the premises he sold to piece to a museum for X amount(not sure which one exactly) in which he hired people to take both pieces down, one of the people being my father as mentioned.
When my father arrived he was told he had to paint over one of the pieces as someone had vandalised it and painted a p***s onto the horse.
He kept the can that was on the window ledge which was originally used by Banksy.
Attached here are some pictures of the can, the removal process, my father repainting fixing the ruined bit and all the pieces prepared for the museum.

Banksy Used Can, by startimeash on Jan 7, 2021 15:17:24 GMT 1, Probably got Banksy DNA on it - you should go see Richard Attenborough and see if he can clone a bunch more Banksy's from it. Could have a whole bunch of them, running free on an island, brutally satirizing consumer culture on walls all over the place. Call it Banksy Park. You'd be coining it in!

Banksy Used Can, by The Italian One on Jan 7, 2021 15:56:30 GMT 1, Danjc, welcome to the forum. Your post will no doubt attract a lot of interest, and some sarcasm, but what you should know if you're going to pursue this with optimism is you've next to no chance of getting a comment from Pest Control. If you're looking to cash in, your best bet is to tell the story with as much detail and evidence as you can provide and see who is the highest bidder, probably via ebay. The demand for anything relating to Bansky is at an all-time high, so there's a chance you'll find a buyer, but it's always going to be capped by how much people trust your word. If you're a fan of Banksy, it might be worth asking yourself if the best thing to do is to keep the can and have a nice personal story to go alongside it. Either way, it would be nice if you were to share the images and tale on the forum so we can all hear it. at least there is some cool, clever and friendly member on this Forum

Ah yes, itโs all fun and games! Thanks for the comment.
I will give the full story, first post was pretty bland:

The main idea when we got the can was to put it in an acrylic piece along with an authentication mark of some sort from pest control of course to no prevail.
Thank you for the suggestion we will keep it in mind, take care.
Most likely we wonโt sell it ever, just a matter of interest on a valuation.

Banksy Used Can, by cmc on Jan 7, 2021 17:15:37 GMT 1, I doubt Banksy painted all the other stuff up there just the horseman and roller bit. I'd imagine the heart, take it as a sign etc were done after by others or some of the work was 'vandalised' in some way. But I don't really know the full story, anyone have any recollections?

Just to confirm, have you sold this now to a member here? It went from you not likely to sell to โsoldโ within 20 minutes so must have achieved a decent price for it.
Welcome to the forum, always good to hear stories like this & see off the grid items potentially linked to Banksy.

i think it is better to wait for Banksy to start the "bbay", vredonche will surely prove them prove its authenticity and see at what price to sell it.

Banksy Used Can, by Not 4 The Thril on Jan 7, 2021 19:25:28 GMT 1, Interesting story. Cool photos- it would be interesting to know where that piece ended up.
I don't think Banksy was the one who painted 'Take this as a sign'- especially since you seem to have photos of the person painting it during the day time.
If you fast forward to 13:00 theres video of Banksy painting the highway piece. Pretty cool piece you have and you know the story- I would just keep it or as another forum member pointed out- you could probably sell it on ebay to someone. Cool post- welcome to the forum.

Banksy Used Can, by danjc on Jan 7, 2021 19:47:36 GMT 1, Thanks for the comment, the person in the picture painting is my dad, he was asked to repaint certain bits for whatever reason!
Nice video, tried slowing it down to see if I could spot the can even though it was most likely used on the ''Take this as a sign'' piece but quality is too low.

Banksy Used Can, by sfnyc on Jan 23, 2021 18:29:42 GMT 1, This kinda stuff is invaluable. You ll regret selling it too. Your two top options would be keeping it or donating it to a museum that will display it with the appropriate story (no good museum would likely give it the honors yet though). So maybe lend it (don't donate it to them) to the Amsterdam Moco? I feel they could display it well among their Banksy exhibition
