Banksy Catalogue Raisonné, by Fast Eddie on Jan 30, 2021 18:10:22 GMT 1, I wonder whether the Urban Art Association should not start a GoFundMe to put together a scholarship, to fund a Banksy catalogue raisonné. I am pretty sure some art scholars/PhD students could be interested.
There are a ton of bad books on Banksy (some of them by Banksy), and it'd be great to have a shared reference, rather than relying on random posts by the odd forum member recalling a drunken night at the Dragon Bar...

I would appreciate someone who knows who to write a proper story and isn’t just out to suckle Banksy’s teet till the money runs dry.
I guess that makes almost anyone a step up from Lazarides.

Spot on Winter. I'm aware of at least one variation within a main edition, never mind all the variations in the APs.

Failing self-publishing I imagine publishers like Taschen and Phaidon would be top of the list for producing a catalogue raisonné.

Agreed, commissions and works not exhibited would be very difficult to track down for an outsider, it could take months/years of research for info POW/PC could pull up in minutes |

Agree, unless it was done with the artists involvement and participation it would likely end up a glossy coffee table book of photographs resembling an auction catalogue focused mainly on price with empty speculative descriptions of the work. Perhaps the ramblings and memoirs after a night out at the Dragon Bar would be preferable, particularly if the artist themselves threw in a few tales and had creative control? |
