What art/artist just leaves you cold?, by duffer31 on Feb 18, 2021 7:35:10 GMT 1, I think Daniel Arsham gets a little bit of a bad rep because his work is loved by hype people. I don’t mind his art. That being said the price is too crazy. For what he produces and Inwould never buy anything. Once he tanks and his stuff is worthless I might get a couple items. I’d put madski in this as well. Some of his prints are cool but I wouldn’t spend over $100. I don’t get why Jonas wood is so loved, but similar to Arsham where he’s just bigger than he should be. I’ll say I don’t get Nara or any of those artists that draw little girls. Just creeps me out. David Shrigley is the same. I don’t get why people want the prints over $100. There isn’t many people I don’t like just a lot of people where I don’t think they are worth what they are making. Rob Brady sounds like a man of class and intelligence, must drive a Aston Martin ,and have a mason storm in his collection, probably displayed above his fireplace. and a couple of proudfoot bros in the loft .
If he does or doesn’t, well done robbrady.

What art/artist just leaves you cold?, by Lroy on Feb 18, 2021 8:56:19 GMT 1, Yes Pez, only decorative...
In fact all the decorative paintings ( and geishas ) and artoys , all these commercial things, I would not have any. Anyway people are buying that only for investment.
I like the " message " in an artwork, the meaning. I don't buy prints to show to my guest or to be pleased with them or/and my walls. It's a bourgeoise attitude... Just because I like the theme, mostly revolitionary ( but not thes Disney things )
Look I bought this Paul Insect, my first print ever, at Pow r ( with Stik, 2 months later ) , It was even not sold out when Pow closed its doors : it is, was anyway a killing one, still of actuallity with a lot of meaning and paint/media mixing ( already new style of Insect ) .... I love it !

What art/artist just leaves you cold?, by Charlie Bronson on Feb 18, 2021 16:35:07 GMT 1, I don’t know if cold is the right description, but I’ve got a story to share. In 2002, I was at a gallery in Los Angeles. I started talking to the owner about art, obviously. I brought up a few artists that I like, whose art leans toward the darker side; Michael Hussar, Kris Kuksi and Kevin Llewellyn. The gallery owner asked me if I wanted to see something, I said of course. He took me to this back hallway and unlocked a door. Inside the room was what I’d guess over 200 paintings sculptures and drawings. At first I thought to myself oh these are pretty cool, at least some of them are.
I started taking a closer look at the art, and realized the names and signatures on the artwork. Richard Ramirez, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Arthur Shawcross, Charles Ng, and a few other names that are familiar for all the wrong reasons. Even back then, pre-Netflix serial killer documentaries, I was a real crime doc and book fan. But, I’m not going to lie, I felt really uneasy looking at the artwork; but I did take time to really dive into some of the pieces. It was a weird feeling. Like I said not sure if cold is the right description and I’m sure you aren’t talking about this type of cold feeling, I assume you’re talking more so void of any emotional response when viewing, I suppose. Gallery owner was a bit weird to boot. I could tell before he showed me his murderer art room. But anyway, so yeah, art by serial killers leaves me feeling cold, as opposed to warm and fuzzy.

What art/artist just leaves you cold?, by Ravnur 2020 on Feb 18, 2021 16:59:41 GMT 1, Art that does not have anything to say and is just pretty pictures leaves me cold (although sometimes the artist is very skillful, but without anything to say....at least as far as i can see). Art toys leave me cold. Art with star wars characters leaves me cold. Art with comic or superheroes leaves me (mostly) cold.
I find it impossible to pin exactly what I like, but the art needs to make me think or feel something, anger, bewilderment, pain, joy, sadness, confusion, embarrassment, provocation, need to know more, etc etc
hey ho

Not as creepy as serial killers, but I've seen art by both of the Kray twins come up at auction, and it feels weird knowing that it was painted whilst they were in prison for murder. Charles Bronson (the UK criminal, not the actor) is another one that occasionally appears. The art is terrible, anyway, but I don't think people are buying it for the aesthetics. Have never seen anything by Hitler come up for sale, art wise, but I imagine there would be an almighty clamor to buy if it did. Sounds like there's a documentary in here somewhere

It has come up a few times. The Chapman brothers used some of his watercolours and added backgrounds.

Most weren’t done well. I remember Gacy’s work being done well. Like he actually had talent as a painter. I also remember his work being the creepiest. The whole clown thing was really creepy. He also had a Gacy painting of Elvis. I remember Richard Ramirez’s work being angry. Like something an angry teenager, listening to death metal, would draw. Lots of what looked like aggressive lines, if that makes sense. Almost like what a Slayer album cover would look like if done by a mediocre artist.
