+1 I really dislike that cheap, glossy look. If i want a mirror on the wall I buy a mirror. That said I would buy one of those if it would be on a different medium / surface

Or you lose your shirt!

Damien Hirst, The Virtues H9, by ajr on Feb 26, 2021 9:17:59 GMT 1, I don't get why the first thing people talk about is the potential value. In this case its an open edition so all who want one will get one. Numbers won't be massive in my opinion due to cost , 8 options in the series and no flipper value. Will take a long time to increase in value in my opinion, if at all. So buy if you like and stay away if looking for a quick buck. I like them and hopefully will have enough cash to get one in a few days, just unsure which. Oh and of course need to convince the wife as it will take up alot of space on the wall....

Looks very flat with no depth at all.
I like the images on this one but with 8 prints as an open edition, there's potentially going to be thousands of these. For me, €2.5k can be better spent. There'll also be bucket loads of these on ebay in the next few months so its a pass.

These Heni panels are great, they just need to be framed. When they aren’t framed they sort of sink into the wall

Damien Hirst, The Virtues H9, by charliec2701 on Feb 26, 2021 9:39:53 GMT 1, Pretty conflicted about this. Been waiting on these and passed up on other Hirst releases waiting. Think the image(s) are great but the size is pretty imposing. Don’t like the fact they are laminated affecting the texture of the heavy paintwork. The open edition is a bit of a negative too. Will have a serious think on it
This isn’t an open edition. It’s a timed release.

Damien Hirst, The Virtues H9, by Dice on Feb 26, 2021 10:59:16 GMT 1, Hirst fans have been waiting for these cherry blossoms for a while and loads of people have asked him to do them on Instagram, perhaps that’s why he went with the timed edition. They are a good size and a decent price but the glossy dibond does look a bit flat and unappealing on the other Heni prints. But I do like the blossoms. What to do.

If they are trying to appeal to uber-rich/ lock up and leavers / asset allocators with crypto / vault storage; the thing these investors want is scarcity and premium quality (this is common the the fine wine / whiskey space most people never physically deliver).
Having a timed Edition on plastic doesn’t allow these folks to buy the scarcity or quality. So you’ll likely end up with pure uneducated illiquid speculators (WSB crew) likely weak handed as the market is flooded with this. Like fruitful. Just don’t get it, they aiming for GME vibes?
This new strategy would have made more sense on the richter release.

Damien Hirst, The Virtues H9, by Poster Bob on Feb 26, 2021 11:54:23 GMT 1, The same as with anything sold anywhere in the world, you pay VAT at the applicable rate at time of purchase if it is being sent to the same country. Otherwise, VAT is removed at the time of purchase and you are then charged the applicable rate at the time of import.

Might be less than the 20% UK VAT though... worth researching!

Yep, you only pay applicable taxes when you withdraw it from the vault. Must be some loophole, but it does seem odd.

Bingo. And the game is to sell it before it ever leaves the Freeport thus not incurring the tax. This is very common in art and other asset classes; not a new phenomenon. Some art stays in Freeport’s for most of its life and trades below HMRCs radar
