My brother who has no interest or knowledge in art saw them in the weekend's newspaper and has somehow decided they're a good investment. Multiply people like that across the globe and these could sell tens of thousands.
At the last minute I think fomo will also kick in for the people who are sat on the fence and will be terrified at the thought of them selling for $10k+ on the secondary market which they might or might not do.

The comments over on Facebook are about 90% negative. But, then again, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the edition size is huge, either. i.e. people think this will be their only chance to buy a signed Hirst print. I don't think there has been a release similar to this one in the past, has there (i.e. similar size, similar price, and a timed edition), so it could go either way.
your last point is very reasonable, this is new territory, nothing very similar before.

The new Nicolas Party editions last week were a better investment than these, were a fraction of the cost and didn't need half a room to store the thing. |

Accepting two different cryptocurrencies will not cause a large increase in the edition sizes. Here's what to consider in terms of positive effects on the secondary market:
- They're not cheap compared to the the affordable Fruitful and Forever prints and the even more affordable Rainbow and Heart.
- They do not come in different sizes and they're all the same price.
- They're large, signed, decent images of work he painted himself.
- They do not require framing and come ready to be hung on the wall.
- They're very easy to store if you're only interested in a profit.
I'd say the edition sizes will be around 500ish each, with quite a bit of variation. The larger galleries are going to have their employees buy full sets of these. A few friends have asked me if they can make a quick buck off of these. My opinion is that you'll be able to make a profit of 100% within two years. You can never tell how many people will try to dump them on Ebay and then race each other to the bottom when undercutting just to make their money back.

Charity editions were cheaper, but these have been more anticipated, and theyโre signed!
Releasing 8 at once may be the only thing that keeps the edition size down.

Any indication he hasn't painted them? IG has been full of videos of him painting this sequence for ages (yes could be staged etc. etc.), but with previous works he has been clearer about using apprentices (butterflies / dots etc.)

The least he can do for $24m is sign them properly. ....oh, and paint them Any indication he hasn't painted them? IG has been full of videos of him painting this sequence for ages (yes could be staged etc. etc.), but with previous works he has been clearer about using apprentices (butterflies / dots etc.) A grand per signature, i'd be adding a doodle to everyone. i might even add some of my breakfast as i sign Yippee ka yay |
