No Shit Sherlock. Galleries / artist want as much £ as possible. But usually a dangerous game - If it was as simple as you state then all established artist would do this all the time. They don’t as they want to create scarcity, pump prices and create a buzz / collectability. This open / timed stuff tends to happen with novel pieces that artist arent staking a career on or when they are past the point of caring about £ (hirst could print shit at this point and find a buyer)

so hirst is doing this as a) doesn’t think the image will have long term appeal to his collectors so is doing a novelty release like fruitful etc. Just cos he can B) desperate for the cash at expense of his reputation c) doesn’t care anymore about rep d) all of the above

It’s an odd strategy unless he keeps doing this to get his art to the masses (but £3k prob isn’t a mass price so again, muddy reasoning)
