Alec Monopoly aside, there are a few pieces that I'd love to own. Both of those Euan Roberts canvases are lovely. I've always wanted a HF Dale Marshall print, so there's that. Some nice Dran, Miller, Richter and other odds and ends.
Thereโs some nice stuff there and estimates seem realistic, even low on some... with a few high exceptions! But I expect that could be the sellerโs choice. Some auction houses do their own in-house packaging and delivery service. Some auction platforms give a Mailbox quote for each lot number. And some expect you to do all the organising yourself; or make a journey to pick it up yourself. You need to check the small print for any auction you plan to bid with. |

Could not agree more. The idea that I'm going to have to spend a bunch of time sorting out the logistics of getting the piece to the states is potentially enough to make me think twice about bidding.
I checked out the fine print on Tate's site and it's pretty vague. Basically, get your piece out of here within 14 days or we charge you storage. The rest is on you. Fair enough, and if I could collect the piece in person that wouldn't be a problem, but finding the time to arrange freight can be a challenge for anyone working a full time job. Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion and making it a bigger deal than it is (totally possible) but my enthusiasm around bidding is somewhat tempered by the shipping situation.
Going to contact mailboxes though and see if that's an easy solution for international shipping.

Auction houses are awful at shipping, and most of them will quote extortionate prices...

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Jun 21, 2019 20:20:10 GMT 1, It does surprise me that ALL Auction Houses dont offer this service as a win - win.. good money to be made for the auction house, and an easy, trouble free service for customers.. which im sure would lead to more potential buyers turning into definite bidders Mailboxes arranged everything for me.. it was released to them by the auction house on my say so.. and they collected and did the rest Pretty simple Could not agree more.ย The idea that I'm going to have to spend a bunch of time sorting out the logistics of getting the piece to the states is potentially enough to make me think twice about bidding.ย I checked out the fine print on Tate's site and it's pretty vague.ย Basically, get your piece out of here within 14 days or we charge you storage.ย The rest is on you.ย Fair enough, and if I could collect the piece in person that wouldn't be a problem, but finding the time to arrange freight can be a challenge for anyone working a full time job.ย Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion and making it a bigger deal than it is (totally possible) but my enthusiasm around bidding is somewhat tempered by the shipping situation.ย ย Going to contact mailboxes though and see if that's an easy solution for international shipping.ย ย
I will be happy to help co ordinate quotes from our preferred shippers flight logistics and JGM shipping. We had previously recommended Cadogan Tate but while their art handling and storage are second to none they are expensive for shipping and packing (we have asked them to address this).
To clarify our view on shipping, we believe our customers should be free to use whoever they wish. We do not mark up the quotes from our recommended partners you will always be paying the actual cost of packing and shipping.
I think this sets us apart from much of our competitors who see it as another revenue stream and an opportunity to profit further after a sale.
