TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Pete the Post on Jan 18, 2023 18:44:33 GMT 1, I have only bought one thing from them at auction last year, everything went fine and Harry seemed like a decent enough chap, the only thing I found amusing was picking up the piece from their office, which is based in a unit resembling a Big Yellow Storage facility a real maze of a place. That place is awesome, some bloody amazing pieces to be seen from those windows.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by its all about me on Jan 18, 2023 19:58:24 GMT 1, I would rather not go in to actual specifics, particularly as I know Tate Ward come in to this site from time to time. Suffice to say, on both occasions, the item description on the lot page clearly did not match up with what the item actually was, including the condition of the artwork. I realise mistakes may happen but the way they dealt with it when I raised my concerns seemed very unprofessional. Once is forgivable. Twice in a row and alarm bells start ringing for me. Yes. This does happen with them. They often use stock photos and put up condition reports before they have actually reviewed the pieces in hand, and then don't update them. Anything I buy from them (or any other auction house) I ask for additional in hand pictures of actual item, and reconfirmation of all condition notes. ' Yes, I think you have hit the nail on the head there. They seem to use stock photos a lot of the time and say everything is in great condition when just a cursory glance will tell you it clearly isn't.
I wont be bidding on any of their items again unless I can get in to London beforehand and view the actual piece in front of my eyes. I don't trust them anymore I'm afraid.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Acme Thunderer on Jan 18, 2023 20:10:36 GMT 1, When Iโve asked them for condition reports in the past, they have highlighted any issues and provided me with all the photos I had requested (nothing was hidden at all). If you ask for specific information they have always been very open and honest, so I would therefore advise that any buyers should be specific with what they want to see.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by vickyv on Jan 19, 2023 10:13:45 GMT 1, Iโve bought from them and, as it was the first time Iโd ever bought at auction, had a load of questions. I found them to be very patient and they sent extra pictures of what I hoped to buy and an on-going condition report as they were checking some potential paper issues. They even delivered it to me free of charge. All in all it was a very positive experience and I would use them again.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by JFCC on Jan 19, 2023 13:19:18 GMT 1, My experiences have been pretty mixed. As a buyer make sure you get a lot of additional good quality photographs of the actual piece as they do use stock photos. Preferably go and see the piece. However, to be fair when you push they always provide pictures and ultimately the condition reports have been reasonably accurate. However my wariness of them has always made less likely to buy from them and certainly not bid high, I go looking for bargains.
As a seller though their reputation goes before them with the issue around fakes tarnishing their image. Rather than retreat away from that market with a fulsome apology, they continued in it, not a good call in my opinion. So this has personally made me stay away from them especially as a sales route.
Personally I have found all of the individuals professional to deal with and pretty knowledgeable, they are simply trying to make a business work and perhaps, again in my own opinion, may have strayed a little close to the sun in the past!! They are prepared to try and offer something different which is a credit to them.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Wanchope on Jan 19, 2023 17:08:48 GMT 1, One thing I have noticed is that the Phillips auction seem to give much more time on each lot and each time the price creeps up and up ultimately giving the seller a much better price it seems. So perhaps Tate Ward could look at giving more time on their lots as I'm sure we have all noticed that the hammer goes down and a better offer comes in but they ignore it because they have been too quick to hammer. I guess they cram in 300+ lots into one evening and they need to get through them all, but any auctioneer should be working for the client. I still like Tate Ward, but hopefully they see this and give more time to the decent lots (I'm not talking the tat stuff)

Like a few people of said if you're consigning do your homework, they get some very strong results for certain artists but obviously quite urban focused.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by T-Bro on Jan 26, 2023 10:41:02 GMT 1, What are people's opinions of Tate Ward? I have bought two items from them at auction on two separate occasions and each time I have not been very happy with things. Have I just been unlucky or are they known to be rather unprofessional in their dealings? I realise they are one of the main auction houses for urban art so I don't want to dismiss them altogether but I am now very reluctant to bid on any of their future auctions. How have other people found them? I have used Tate for a few years now and have found them great to deal with and make sure that the buyers and sellers are happy.
I have sold privately, sold in auction and bought through auction and the process has been pretty seamless. I have got to know Danny and the team and their customer service has always been top-notch.
As a new auction house, I think they accepted all sorts of lots but they are now a lot more selective and I think they are maturing into their business. I am sure they have their faults and each person's experience is different but I wanted to put in my tuppence, for what it's worth.
I would advise prospective sellers (and buyers) to direct any questions or concerns to the Tate ward team and see if they settle your reservations.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by slartibartfast on Feb 17, 2023 2:51:49 GMT 1, I personally think this is a terrible thing for an auction house to do, they know themselves at Tate Ward that these Shrigley posters are still available. If its true that they are an up and coming reputable auction house then they really shouldnt have these up for sale. Its sad for the buyers and just creates bad press for TW surely?
