Game Changer Auction, by Carl Cashman Art on Mar 10, 2021 9:27:10 GMT 1, I guess like everyone else I get my street art and graffiti news via the guardian. The guardian suggested the hospital will hang a reproduction after the auction. To me I read that as Banksy was gifting them a print. Another painting more like.

Game Changer Auction, by Woodey1001 on Mar 22, 2021 21:43:20 GMT 1, Ugh.
Wish these mega fundraisers like captain whoever and Banksy would realise The NHS isn't a charity. It's publicly funded, so a policy decision on funds.
This is a gift to the taxman. It's a bad precedent to treat the NHS like a charity when in fact, to offset this the government will divert the same amount raised away from the NHS.
We are all aleady funding the NHS massively through all our paychecks, and we are a very very rich country.
Nobody should be fundraising for the NHS. Bad call Banksy.
Ugh.

The point you raise about money being diverted away because of the potential money raised is a valid and decisive point. Unfortunately the NHS will always be an organisation of poorly managed public funds due to the size of it. However day in and day out it is staffed by people who save many lives on a day by day basis. Maybe the potential sale price will mean funding cuts to offset the money raised but does it not show the upmost support from one of the most revered current British artists to the people that have put their lives at risk to save others.

Well an actual charity, or say care facility or hospice would have benefited massively for many years from this. Anything that's not a publicly funded service.
Captain Tom Moore and Banksy missed a big opportunity to make a difference I think.
Big potential, no impact whatsover.

Nope they don't benefit at all. Only our tax collectors.
Maybe a morale boost? Likely a very short lived one, compared to Banksy's pr boost anyway.

You clearly have very little understanding of how the NHS is funded or how it manages charitable donations, yet you donโt stop that lack of knowledge from voicing your misinformed comments.

Neither the Tom Moore fundraiser, nor the proceeds of this auction, go directly to the NHS or any government department. I would certainly agree with the sentiment of your post if it were accurate, but it isnโt. it actually is accurate. But I'm not here to argue. Just saying they should donate to charity not to the taxman.

Now its Sir Whoever for raising a similar amount for the NHS. Is that what Banksy is after, a title? ๐ค. I guess he probably had better intentions but it's a missed goal. He might be trying to get attention for one though.

Hardly. It is disrespectful to his care home. They're not publicly funded are they. Money in the bin. Should've raised for his actual carers who needed it and would have benefited. Oh well.. instead the chancellor will find a friend to give it too through some cronie contract tender for PPE or whatever๐

Game Changer Auction, by sgolby on Mar 22, 2021 23:05:13 GMT 1, Am I mistaken, wasnโt this given as a thank you to the nurses who were on the front lines during the first wave of covid? Nurses who get paid significantly less than doctors yet out themselves in significantly riskier situations? Game changers are the nurses. I thought this was going to sell not to be given to the NHS, but rather to benefit front line workers.
Edit*. The proceeds are going to benefit the NHS. Which is a good thing because isnโt the NHS under serious financial strain?

The NHS is funded by government policy decisions. Not donations. Donations don't change a thing. It's funding is strained because of government decision to put the money elsewhere.
It's not a charity you donate money too. You already pay for it over your life time, in advance of using it... by very high taxes that are spent inefficiency.
