Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by e11a on Apr 15, 2021 12:11:58 GMT 1, Hello,
I'm new here, so apologies for my jumping straight in to gauge interest selling a Banksy XL Avery Keep Left Sticker along with a Banksy Existencilism book, size A5-ish?
Both were given to me, one with the purchase of Love Rat, from Art Republic in Brighton. The other as a gift. I want to get the best, fairest price for it. I'm not interested in using ebay or G'tree--looking to offer it to someone who will genuinely want and enjoy it. The sticker has been sitting in a plastic sleeve for the past 16 (or so) years, and it would make me happy to sell them to someone who will enjoy both sticker and book.
The sticker has a little bubble on the bottom left hand corner--this is a defect that came with the sticker. The Existencilism book has a slight corner crease on the back cover--this is due to my carelessly putting it back on the bookshelf.
I am looking for offers over £100 for Existencilism. I am looking for offers over £1800 for Keep Left.
I am happy to hold onto them, but would also like to see them go to a good home.
I will only entertain face-to-face transactions with bank transfer, after agreeing to buy.

Thanks mate. I figured I’d start here. Call it tat if you want, I’m pretty sure it’s an okay price to be asking. I’ll know soon enough.

😂. Always wanted to go to Dublin. If you are seriously interested, PM me and we can figure something out. Face to face transaction protects us both, but if you have a reputable courier on account, I am happy to send as soon as GBP hit my account. I am amenable.

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by avec art on Apr 15, 2021 15:40:42 GMT 1, some Banksy tat is no bad thing, as you're obviously aware. It sounds like a derogatory term but I didn't mean it that way. It's just what you can it, I prefer it to ephemera. What would you call it, I mean it's not a print is it?
Also can I ask what it says on the back and do you have any pics?

Ephemera is a great word, but I concede that there’s a fine, subjective line between tat and ephemera. I tried to upload photos of both sticker and book, and I must be tech challenged today. I will try again. No, it’s not a print, just a Keep Left sticker, Avery Graphics 400 Permanent printed on the paper panel.
Hope this is helpful.

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by avec art on Apr 15, 2021 17:39:23 GMT 1, At least this one appears to have some age to it. The problem I have with these is that Avery as a company still run. Nothing is preventing anyone from uploading their own design (or someone else's) and getting it made as an A4 sticker, and it'll have the same Avery branded backing. There's no verification of its authenticity other than the sellers word.

Fair point. That’s why I put my trusty Wickes tape measure to the sides of things. The sticker is larger than A4 and the book is slightly smaller than A5. artcave, is there any other way of authenticating this sticker? It took absolute ages for Pest Control to authenticate the Love Rat print, so I doubt that PC would even entertain authenticating stickers... Forum Auctions (who sold my Love Rat print) suggested I come on here with my sticker.

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by e11a on Apr 15, 2021 17:59:55 GMT 1, The other thing I can offer to help people feel some confidence that the sticker is genuine is a copy of my receipt from the Banksy print, from Art Republic, in Brighton. Art Republic gave out these stickers as a freebie for buying the prints. I’m happy to provide these on a private message or email basis as it contains personal details...please don’t ask to see it, though, unless you are serious about buying. As I’ve said, it’s living in a plastic sleeve at the moment, not being enjoyed. I’d rather it went to a good home, or to someone who can keep it in good nick.

Bet mine’s more knackered than yours!
Anyone know what the going rate for these is? I see Laz is knocking them out for £2,500 - what would a sane person pay?

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by sgolby on Apr 15, 2021 18:44:05 GMT 1, Not to hijack the thread, but honestly the stupid numbers people are paying for posters and stickers are just that. Stupid. I get the hype and all, but the reality is these things are open editions being sold as something more when in reality they are not, super easily fakeable, NOT SAYING THIS ONE IS FAKE, but just go make one for yourself as banksy encourage you to do on the site.
Honestly IMHO the existentialism booklet is WAY more desirable than the sticker, harder to copy, and way way way more interesting to look thru over and over.
P.s. since you got this for free i have zero issue stating my true feelings on the matter. GLWTS

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by avec art on Apr 15, 2021 18:55:58 GMT 1, I don't feel so black and white about the the matter. Do Fasson who are owned by Avery and used for some of the Banksy stickers back in the day still making the same backing? I don't see that they are.
Does that mean someone can't also make a branded type backing as well as the front of the sticker? I expect someone could, but it's a much greater length to go to.
There are stickers on ebay which have blank backs and are highly suspect. Has anyone seen examples of a fake sticker with a correct backing, or perhaps we wouldn't know.
Same with Starliner stickers, I'm not sure if they're still produced.

You have every right to feel this way about my cashing in on a freebie. I respect that and my wanting to do the transaction in person so that the buyer can see what they are getting, provide original receipt of the Banksy print to the buyer for provenance, AND be willing to hold onto this sticker until a time when someone genuinely wants to buy it. I came here because of a recommendation from Forum Auctions and I am happy to bide my time with the sticker; I don’t think my listed price is unreasonable. If I offered it for free you would say I was foolish. If the market has moved on, I can accept that and I will give it away to someone if my choosing.
I have moved on from hanging onto the Banksy stuff, prints, stickers and books. I’d like to free up some cash to buy some other artwork that can actually go on my walls without upping the cost of my contents insurance, like the Banksy prints.

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by Matt on Apr 15, 2021 19:42:15 GMT 1, Not saying this one is fake or real, but most fakes are easy to spot because good fakes are not that easy to make
So like most ephemera you need to 1- know what you are looking for 2- make sure as many things as possible check out (receipts, aging, seller etc...)
As for whether the value of these things makes sense, or if you should sell a freebie, it’s all a matter of perspective and both pros and cons can be argued

To be clear mate, I have no issue with you selling at market price. I totally get it,and respect you for selling it. My comment is more that the market itself is f*cking stupid, that's just my take.
As for giving things away, I have given quite a bit away on this forum, so no, I wouldn't think you were crazy. I would think you were just trying to spread some good juju to the boards. In fact, you've inspired me, I am going to do a giveaway now.

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by Matt on Apr 16, 2021 7:32:06 GMT 1, Has anyone enquired whether it is actually possible to still buy the Fasson / Avery / Starliner backings (and minimum order size) ?
Would be a good clue as to whether you can easily fake these
My hunch is that it isn’t easy, and less profitable vs. printing tenners. save delete posters, snowman postcards etc...

Well done sgolby. May good karma come your way—I mean that. You’re a mensch. Perhaps I will try my luck on eBay after all. Just so everyone knows, I am not a dealer, I love art, and I am not currently gainfully employed. ££ is hard to come by right now and I’ve had to sell things to meet bills, and I’d like to support an artist whose work is relatively new. This board has a for sale section and that is where I put the sticker and book. Not putting out a sob story or much of my background first may have been my downfall. I do have a Banksy sticker that is being given to my cousin (man walking out of the circle), because he and I have bonded over our love of street/urban art. Anyway. This is my last post on this thread. Good luck and good night. Thanks to everyone who helpfully commented on my post, re authentication and provenance, etc. I have learned a lot and will take those lessons going forward. e11a

I have learned a lot and will take those lessons going forward. e11a

Banksy sticker, Existencilism, by Matt on Apr 16, 2021 9:38:57 GMT 1, Has anyone enquired whether it is actually possible to still buy the Fasson / Avery / Starliner backings (and minimum order size) ? Would be a good clue as to whether you can easily fake these My hunch is that it isn’t easy, and less profitable vs. printing tenners. save delete posters, snowman postcards etc... Scammers run out to check: what a Great idea
If it is easily do-able it is already done
Hardly think I’ve hatched a cunning plan 😅
