You just made me sick as a fucking dog. I saw this on liveauctioneers last year and assumed it was a fake. He had it as attributed. Having said that, if I was to buy all the Banksy attributed pieces I see in auctions I'd be broke ........ It goes to show you there are still finds in auctions www.liveauctioneers.com/item/82704785_banksy-attrib-spray-paint-stencil

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by irl1 on May 3, 2021 20:13:49 GMT 1, Interesting that the first auction didn't mention any coa. I've seen "Banksy" duplicate stencils recently in artist studios, so I'd stay far away from anything that isn't coming with a PC COA. You sure it's the exact same item? I'm wondering that myself. The auctioneer said it had no COA when I asked last year

Yeah I'd say your right, Sotheby's are going to check everything before they post a statement like that in a lot

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by LJCal on May 3, 2021 23:35:03 GMT 1, Someone hit the jackpot. When I look at something like that in a lower tier auction I immediately assume itโs fake, shows what I know.

Reminds me on the Da Vinci Salvator Mundi painting : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvator_Mundi_(Leonardo)
Bought 1kUSD at a local auction as a copy, sold 450MUSD at Christies No Da Vinci Pest Control though

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by fenderusastrat on May 4, 2021 15:10:57 GMT 1, My guess would be that the show is not listed on the PC certificate. Wen an Original piece is sold or exhibited at an exhibition this is usually noted on the PC certificate - and I would imagine that only then is it considered the kind of fact that Sothebys would refer to in an auction listing.

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by fenderusastrat on May 5, 2021 3:53:12 GMT 1, To me this rat looks incomplete without the radar circle in the background. It looks like an unfinished or incomplete work. I doubt it was displayed for sale at the Existencillism show with this detail missing and it was likely a test or gift stencil work. Sothebyโs is selling it so PC certified it and it certainly has some value. Donโt get me wrong, for $2k it was an absolute steal and the person who bought it from the smaller auction house and is reselling it will be making a fantastic return in a short amount of time. But I would be hesitant to spend hundreds of thousands on a Rat that is missing its Radar. The hand finished print would be a better buy and look much better on the wall than this.

That wouldnโt bother me, I donโt think the original street pieces had the circles anyway

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by laughn0w on May 6, 2021 16:42:05 GMT 1, From sothebys site: Provenance Private Collection (gift of the artist in 2002) Private Collection (acquired from the above) Millea Brothers Auctions, New Jersey, 26 March 2020, Lot 1025 Acquired from the above sale by the present owner
So someone was gifted the print "by Banksy" in 2002. Q1 - why sell it (or give it away) without trying to get it authenticated? I guess maybe they didn't know about PC etc. but if you were given it by the artist you'd think they would know a little about the Banksy world.
Q2 - Someone who acquired it from the original owner decides to sell this print at a second tier auction house a few months before the Banksy print market goes off. Unlucky? Perhaps. But even so originals were fetching huge sums last year so why stick it in a second tier auction without trying to get it authenticated first?
Maybe I'm missing something here? Either way congrats to the buyer who took the risk on it last year. Hope its someone on this forum.

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by LJCal on May 6, 2021 20:14:36 GMT 1, I thought it was always accepted that Leonardo was only involved in the under drawings and the painting was done by apprentices under his direction with perhaps some touching up? Given the degree of restoration as well I think it's hard to attribute the work entirely to him anyway.

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by bw88 on May 9, 2021 19:05:28 GMT 1, Wow! I'm shocked to see this was a Millea Brothers auction. They're located a town over from me here in New Jersey. I follow their auctions because they usually have some great antiquities for sale(although plenty are probably fake) but somehow missed this one last year.
Hard to even put them into a "tier"...feels like a start-up auction house or something. They've had a few random big pieces over the years, but otherwise I consider them just the local auction house. I can't believe they unknowingly had an OG Banksy. Wild.

$400-600k was quite a punchy estimate but still, passed.

It had a bid of 380 k - I guess it passed because it didn't reach the estimate?

Banksy - Radar Rat spraypaint on cardboard, by Discerning Eye on May 14, 2021 18:57:16 GMT 1, After reading all this and drying my tears, I peeked over at their site to see what's available this week.
They have a banksy replica of Monkey Detonator. Assume it to be fake as well, but of course had to dig deeper. I had them send me photos, just in case. Auction ends tomorrow.
Guessing it will sell for next to nothing as it's in a lot with other junk. If anyone wants to go in on it as a lark, I'm open. Must be UK based to buy.

The images they sent me here:

I have totally no agenda here, just throwing it out there. But if you buy and it's real, you owe me a beer.
