Banksy monkey parliament 2009 sell or keep?, by claireb88 on May 5, 2021 21:48:51 GMT 1, Hi, I'm looking for advice. I have the banksy monkey parliament 2009 print from the Bristol exhibition in the original tube. If I keep it will it go up in value or should I cash it now?
I'm new to this and it's the only art work I have.
Any help much appreciated

Hi claire, Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, please carefully remove from the tube and let the poster ‘relax’ for a few weeks. Do not force it flat as it may crease. The paper has ‘memory’ so it will keep rolling up. Leave it for days and do not force it flat.
Secondly, to answer your question… Do you need the money now? If not, let it flatten. Store it in acid free tissue paper or get it framed and hung on the wall if your only piece of art. It will probably increase further in value but no one really knows.
You will get messages from people trying to buy it cheaply off you and doing you a ‘favour’ at cost plus a few hundred. Ignore.

Banksy monkey parliament 2009 sell or keep?, by Charlie Bronson on May 6, 2021 3:38:24 GMT 1, Welcome to the forum. Don’t accept candy or open containers from anyone here. Sell it if you need the money. If you don’t, frame it and enjoy it or put it away and safely store it. It’ll be worth more in 10 years.

Worried about bleaching etc I’d just keep it simple. Black, gloss or satin frame, no mat or black mat, with archival mounting corners to mount it. Find a reputable framer. Depending on where you’re located, lots of forum members here can recommend a quality framer.

Thank you. There is a local picture frames where I live who is brilliant. Thank you. What about UV rays and bleaching. Will it not effect it?

Banksy monkey parliament 2009 sell or keep?, by Zippy on May 6, 2021 10:50:48 GMT 1, Talk with your framer re UV % of the glass they offer. The higher the % the better the protection. And obviously do not hang in direct sunlight as it will fade. These were produced as a cheap poster so I would expect they will fade naturally over time but sunlight will speed up the process.
If your local framer does not inspire you with confidence, post up on here which area you are in as someone will have a recommendation hopefully not too far from you.
You say in your original post you do not own any other artworks so is your comment of "There is a local picture frames where I live who is brilliant" based on recommendation? As best you do your own research and go and talk to them before commiting.

Banksy monkey parliament 2009 sell or keep?, by stillborncrisps on May 7, 2021 21:35:28 GMT 1, I really wouldn't use a 'local framer', no matter how brilliant.
If this thing is really worth £5k-£6k, get a proper archival or fine art framer to frame it, one recommended by people on here.
Do some research yourself on different UV glass types. What a framer offers isn't necessarily the whole range. Even with UV glass try not to hang it where it gets hit by direct sunlight, ICBW but I don't think any glass is 100% protective?
Also, you might want to look at getting it listed as a high value item on your Contents Insurance (if you have any). Most insurers want valuables over £1k or so itemised or they won't pay out. Think of accident cover as well as theft cover - leaking pipe, falls off wall, etc...
