Art Car Boot Fair, by Lroy on May 19, 2021 11:52:38 GMT 1, Because of the flippers feeding frenzy over the weekend with people buying as many as they could of what they thought were D Shrigley prints up until noon on Sunday when we realised what was happening and made it bindingly obvious that they were not Shigleys there have been a lot of refunds. Thank you Vanessa at the ACBF for processing all of those btw. We increased the stock levels as this was going on but afraid of overselling we were cautious..with the result we have a small number of both Drigleys left which are on our shop for the Boot price of ยฃ55 til Thursday midnight then in any left they will be ยฃ70 shop.atomgallery.co.uk/shave-drigley.html Vanessa is great !

Did you not think this would happen when this whole idea was in the planning?

This release was perfect for the Outis marketing!

Art Car Boot Fair, by blurp on May 19, 2021 14:43:04 GMT 1, Oh come on now, be honest the entire joke was selling something that people would think was DS. Call it a prank, call it art but be honest. As for the buyers: C a v e a t e m p t o r .
Iamzero said: Did you not think this would happen when this whole idea was in the planning? To be completely honest, no. It was explained clearly on the artist bio page not only that they were not by DS but who the artist was behind the silly pseudonym. Also I thought it would be pretty obvious by the price alone that they were not DS. I thought possibly there might be some flack from DS's people, and they did get in touch with the ACBF but only becuase they thought that someone was trying to pass off work as being by him, they were assured by Karen this was not the case.

The only people who thought it might be Shrigley are the same people that thought Outis might be Banksy or that the West Country prince might just be him too.

The seller fulfilled his duties in clear print as if the price was not a give away and the fact they did not pull an Outis stunt which would of clearly been easy to pass with greed

It's interesting, I didnt give it much thought at first tbh. It was obvious someone doing it "for a laugh and a giggle". But it was kinda obvious, knowing this forum's history with Ottis etc etc, that a few people, maybe 10's, would buy on the offchance it was actually Shrigley doing it for a "laugh and a giggle". See the thread now on what are obviously unofficial invader maps. So basically, the confusion was always going to happen. But as it's dragged on, the more questionable it looks, in the sense it generates questions. The "artist" is the gallery owner ? How does this differ from the Bansky tat on ebay etc ? are we saying this is "conceptual", so it's kinda justified ripping off the artist? doubtful it would happen if Shrigley's were the same price right. And the price point of Shrigley's have been cited as both justification for the work, but also leveraged against those who maybe naively bought in the hope it was the real deal. So the concept is about originality and money? Is it like The Connor Brothers concept, which seems to be a emperors new clothes defense, a kinda cynical "what is art anyway", it's all a scam -so why not rip other more successful artists work off by producing cheaper "tongue in cheek, but not completely" versions of their work?

Art Car Boot Fair, by verylittlehelps on May 19, 2021 16:09:16 GMT 1, There was also an advert for the prints posted in a D Shrig thread on this forum by atom (with no disclaimer about the real artist). I love you guys, and am enjoying the idea of these flippers crawling back for refunds, but there does seem to have been an element of this being set up and sold in a 'wink, wink, nudge nudge' sort of way.

Art Car Boot Fair, by Happy Shopper on Nov 9, 2021 14:31:23 GMT 1, I agree with Atom Gallery. There's some good stuff for sale this time around but even on Monday, I was surprised to see so much is still available. Perhaps ACBF also feel stuff isn't selling as well as planned, as they have now extended the event for 4 more days. I think people are less likely to buy art from unknown artists (or unknown to them), unless they see it in person. Hopefully back to the real Art Car Boot Fair for the next one!
Also missing a few big names this time... hopefully also returning for the real deal!
