Art Car Boot Fair, by .dappy on May 16, 2011 21:42:59 GMT 1, How does it work ... get there early ... sort of queuing system last year. They gave out tickets to the first people's to stop the queue jumpers (giving out tickets and SIA men for the first time last year)... once the 'doors' (well a bit of string) are open its a rush to find the stall that you want. Most people 'stampede' for Peter Blake. Although with Damo ;D there(?) this year it could be difficult to pick which one... prices normally pretty good PB well under ยฃ100. Gavin Turk has always disappointed me (I don't get it) .. although good to talk too ... and always a good 'stall' There are some interesting other artists that if you take the time to look are good as well. I normally spend most of the day and after I have picked up the PB have a slow walk around, then some lunch, go outside visit the other galleries nearby and go back in again. I also like Swifty and always seem to buy something off him cยฃ20-ยฃ60. Pure Evil was also good. There was another chap last year selling art with loads of jewels and coloured glass making up sauces, breakfast cereals, comics etc. I bought three canvases! (If asked nicely I might take some photos of them to show) Apparently Madonna has bought a load of his stuff!
It really is a 'car boot sale' with trestle tables so if you do not go thinking it will be all beautiful art, fantastically displayed - take your time and you will enjoy.
If the sun shines it is very good - if it doesn't and rains it is also good (but also a bit of a damp squid, so to spk)

Sounds more than plausible. It would make the day even better if he did that.

Art Car Boot Fair, by rottenredrooster on May 18, 2011 15:05:20 GMT 1, All four for ยฃ850 can't be bad.
The Marcus Harvey and Jake and Dinos are interesting.
Brilliant prices.
Can see this being a huge queue, and what with such low editions I wouldn't be surprised if people started queueing a couple of days before.

Art Car Boot Fair, by Ruggs on May 18, 2011 15:45:11 GMT 1, Wouldn't surprise me if the Damien Hirst print will be snapped up before the paying public get in, especially as it's only an edition of 75. Judging by previous Boot Fairs quite a few press and VIP's get first dibs, so by the time us mere mortals get in very few, if any, will be available.

I hope not Ruggs. Kind of defeats the object of a 'boot fair' as it were.

I hope i'm wrong. The reason I say that is one year me and a mate were first two in the queue. By the time we got in and purchased our Peter Blake prints I walked away with number sixty something.

Art Car Boot Fair, by sfield on May 18, 2011 16:38:59 GMT 1, The queuing system is poor. Even if you're one of the first in the queue there's no guarantee as there are plenty of people that jump it, and then there's the mad rush to find the stall/boot. At least this may clear the path for the Peter Blake print!
