Very sad to see. Most his recent stuff has been lazy quality in my amateur opinion. Not surprising to see some still sitting unsold. Should put most people off

I am a fan of Shrigley generally, but the recent animal + silly slogan formula has become so derivative and uninspiring. I think even flippers are losing interest. I don’t like to be harsh about any artist’s output, but as a collector this sort of approach to releasing works really bugs me.

Time will tell if he is a blue chip artist. Currently he is a hot artist of the moment, art history says what is happening with Shrigley is not unusual. And I say this as a fan of many (certainly not all) of his works. He has carved out a unique space without cliche. When on point the simplicity of the image tied to the phrase works magically.
If he is still doing this to greater effect and demand in 5-10 years he would be a blue chip artist.

Pretty obvious what’s going on with the shrig secondary market
It’s non existent at a profitable level ( no issues with that per se and that’s not leading my views on his art ) and someone is attempting to bolster it

That piece, certainly weird, but there were 5 or 6 other prints in that sale that went for more sensible prices (3 - 5k ish)... So there is a secondary market.
He should slow down his releases though!

Because of this there is a decent and buoyant secondary market for selling his prints at 2k-5k on secondary, possibly in some cases to these less serious/price savvy collectors. I know few other people who also like framing 2/3/4 of his prints together which looks good and also means you need to buy a number of his prints, which is no problem as he releases lots.
This large volume of potential buyers at the 2-3k level mean Shrigs prints are always popular on release day when it is tiered, but unless people really rate the print you see them languishing at the top tiers of around 2.5k+ where the margin for a quick flip is gone.
I could just be overthinking things though (wouldn't be first time on UAA)...
