Banksy - May June 2021 PRINT AUCTIONS, by JFCC on May 25, 2021 10:53:47 GMT 1, It's an interesting period, with much of the Asian and Far East buyers now fulfilled we are still seeing an oversupply as early purchasers of Banksy try to understandably cash out.
There will continue to be a change from original collector to "investor" as sales at the big galleries and "investment" galleries are confirming. Prices in Galleries are at least 20-25% ahead of Auction.
Likely casualties in my opinion are the oversold unsigned prints, take your pick, and the the gap between signed and unsigned will correctly open again with signed probably continuing to increase.
I personally expect the key casualties to be LIITA u/s which will be sub ยฃ100k and GWB Unsigned ยฃ160k.
Successes will be the less seen signed prints Bomb Hugger, Love Rat (up twice), No Ball Games (Grey), Happy Choppers and Donuts (Strawberry) all of which should get through ยฃ100k easily enough and close to their records
The star performer will Choose Your Weapon (Bright Pink) and (Purple which is at Forum) which will set records.

I finally got to updating the overall price index on www.banksy-value.com for May, which is moderately down 6.5%, so we are overall 15-18% down from peak price levels.

It's quite the opposite owners are selling prints now before originals are out of sight. |

Many artists have dedicated sales. That's a fair point, Mr Doodle has had a dedicated sale. But those 3 artists certainly aren't having multiple dedicated sales several times a year by all the major and not so major auction houses. The auction houses are milking it for all it's worth, it's no surprise print prices have stalled if there is a LIITA at auction every 2 months. At some point the supply will dry up as the prints find more permanent homes. |

Originals regularly selling now for many millions.ย I know many print owners who are now selling at these auctions, and buying originals before it's too late. It's quite the opposite owners are selling prints now before originals are out of sight.ย
I think that bitcoin (which is crashing as well, btw) is only allowed for Banksys in these auctions says a lot. People try to find a way to spend their bitcoins before they crash completely and the auction houses, the sellers and Banksy used that fact.
And despite that, the laugh now went bad.
Oh and there are more and more Banksy auctions - not only prints. A surprising number of people try to sell lately.
