OK it's KAWS, but what does anyone see in KAWS, serious question, I just cant see anything in it that would make anyone want to buy it or any of the other KAWS stuff, although I may be missing something so please somebody tell me, what they find to make it worth buying, as to be honest I would probably only ever look at something like this if it was very cheap Christmas wrapping paper for a pre school toddler.
Ready to be enlightened

If you took the time to do some research you would see his progression over 15 years and maybe have an idea why he currently produces the work that he does. I wouldnt judge an artist, based on jpegs posted on forums.
Enjoy the research, you may discover some cool information

The first one sells for only $800? I think the anti-take on this print is because it wasnt released to UK'ers. Its a great example of work (better than the first IMO) from a legendary artist. This will easily double in value in the next couple years when supply dries up.

OK, personally I see cost as print + shipping + customs. The first sells for around 1k so im not far out as Aldrich charged a bomb for shipping . Im not really fussed how high the prices go, I just want them to drop far enough for me to justify buying them. So no, no being pissed off with a US only release... its only a piece of paper at the end of the day .

It is not as though I am looking only to criticize KAWS, but I genuinely would like to see what attracts some people to it. I personally see nothing in it, but it wouldn't be impossible for something that at first I dismissed to later turned out to hold something I learned and grew to appreciate, Vermin is an excellent example, as when I first viewed his work I thought it was nothing but a bit of a fuzzy smudge but now would quite like to add a piece to my collection. I also realize like music art is a very personal thing that appeals to individuals in different ways and as tastes grow or change, you start to appreciate differing things and types of it and what I may like now, others may hate and even I may have done in the past or will in the future.
But this is the second time I have asked the question "what do people see in KAWS" and not once has anyone tried to explain its attraction to them, nor have I seen anyone sings its praises in any other thread that I have read, however I have seen quite a lot of talk about its value, flipping and other financial matters, which at present leave as me thinking there is nothing in it other than what it is or will be worth.
But I know there are a few forum members who have taken the trouble and expense to have KAWS framed or displayed, so surely there must be somebody who could explain its value as a piece of art.
Please, this isn't a ****'s work is S**T thread, I really would like to know

I think the lowest sale is $1750, thats still quite a bit (75%) past original retail + shipping + customs.

Kaws • Sponge Bob KawsBob Set, Yellow, Black, Red, by des77 on Apr 22, 2011 18:38:18 GMT 1, Personally it was the ad disruption pieces that grabbed my attention first. The subversive way he stole, painted and then replaced the posters by companies like chanel was great. There execution is so good people at the time would have had no idea they were fake.
As an aspiring artist I can appreciate his painting technique, a style that gives his product paintings there worthy name. His paintings look like they have been made by a machine and a simply mind blowing in person . I presume his time working at Disney must have helped, but the really do look like they have been made by machine
Same goes for the prints, I think the dissected prints are a true work of art and the most impressive printing ive ever seen. I thought Andy Warhols factory mentality was great and I see people like Hirst and Kaws as our modern day comparisons, although ive never really bought into the toy/clothes/key chain side of things I do see the 4ft works and pinocchio size 'toys' as sculptures.
Not sure any of that makes sense , but its a few reasons why I like kaws

Ok your kaws print is worth loads of money.
For me to buy one from Aldrich would have cost close to £1000 to my door. Last one sold for £1050 on ebay, so even that is close to cost.. and a private deal would be even cheaper. Im not trying to talk prices down, just stating facts.

£1000! Shoot, I thought you meant $1000. If retail to the UK was double what it was in the US then I guess you're right.

Kaws • Sponge Bob KawsBob Set, Yellow, Black, Red, by Francis on Apr 22, 2011 20:19:44 GMT 1, if you want one of these, now is the time to buy them because they are being sold by those that bought strictly to resell. they have to move them quick and so are competing right now with all the others that want to move them. once these are gone, they supply is distributed to those that actually want them, so their price to let them go will be higher. no better time to buy than now.
