The work of Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly, who makes his art under the moniker “KAWS,” is the subject of the first Focus exhibition for the 2011–2012 season. KAWS’s vast body of work includes graffiti (early in his career), murals, paintings, and sculpture. Following along the continuum of Pop art, his work critiques contemporary consumer culture, blurring the boundaries between it and the art world. On December 13, any prints that are left available, will be open to the public to purchase. Also, we are not offering any membership discounts on the print. I am not sure who gave you that information, but it is false. You must be at least at the Director’s Council level ($525) in order to have priority for purchasing the print. The print will be made available to all other members and public on December 13 at 10 am. I have clarified this information with everyone here, as these guidelines were set and emailed to staff by our Director.

I think they are concerned cat is out of the bag with the release and it's lack of availability.... I told her it was bad form to try to sell expensive memberships leading people to believe that had a chance to buy a print that is already spoken for.

Well said - perhaps this is also a very shrewd move by the artist, effectively donating $120k to a museum and getting your art into the collections of some high end collectors...
I do feel for the museum staff now who are probably being inundated with calls from all over the World when there'll probably be very few for sale to the general public...

I wouldn't get your knickers wound up about it all. You'll probably be able to pick one up in the aftermarket for a lot less than a Banksy anyway.
