No thought for any deeper meaning or history of an artist, just total surface value of an image, and whether you'd put in on the wall. Horses for courses I suppose... Are prints not supposed to end up on walls?
But are we debating this as a poster for your wall, like a piece of decoration or your curtains, or as a work of art?... albeit a multiple edition of a work of art

That's very true...
In the case of this image though I'd say it's important to understand the series of work that has come before it (and continues), to appreciate it more.
Rather than, say, Banksy's "Donuts" where you don't have to know his earlier work to either like it/understand it or not.
Just cos an artist has done great things in the past doesn't mean we have to pat him on the back when he does something standard and tell him its alright 'because of your history'.... imo of course. I can understand if this isn't your bag but I like the spongebob stuff. Although I think it's best when they get distorted and almost look like an abstract painting. There's a genuineness in his copying which I hardly ever find in other current pop appropriation artists. Plus a nice subtle subversion to it. But I don't like everything he does. I wouldn't display his tweety bird if it was free. Although I am still miffed about missing pinocchio.

I personally like the spongebob print. It's consistent with his body of work and is graphically very strong. This seems to be the epitome of pop art/culture in 2010 and would personally rather this (spongebob) on my wall than a re-hash of a soup can of which there are plenty
