From weeks to weaks ? , by Lroy on Jun 7, 2021 6:50:51 GMT 1, Just an impression, becoming recurrent and quick.... ( maybe I m wrong )
The art market is collapsing .. A certain market, not the one reserved for VIPs, but one open to all and which was accessible with some savings ..
Exponentially, the Banksy market - street-art in general, many artists and galleries - majoritiares in UK or USA (Obey) no longer wanting to sell in Europe or in the world, no longer find takers and are compartmentalized in their land of Albion or not.
What makes that the prices fall of semianes in weeks or that the prices collapse: on Ebay for ex. a box set at 300 euros (they were more than 1000 a short time ago), books, tats and others which remain the same from week to week. Whose fault is it ? Too many high pirx? Overvalued? overrated artists? The Covid? The next vacation? Brexit? VAT? Is the world afraid? fashions? a hype in turn (by e. Invader at the moment)? ...
Everything has become weird, some are looking in Asia, Korea, flyers, cd or dvd ... But hey, what do we do with all this? International trade ( sale or swap ) is dead.
Just an impression, becoming recurrent and quick.... ( maybe I m wrong )

I don't think if I got you right, but in my opinion, there won´t be a major setback of prices in the art market... There might be a minor bubble, but don't forget: money is cheap and instead of keeping they money on bank accounts (with no or negative interest rates), people are searching for investments. And art is one of them. So IMHO there might be a smaller decrease in prices, but i am convinced, that all in all, the art market is growing constantly. Important note: I am talking about established and blue chip artists...

If I can resell something for 30% more after a week, it's already working out better than a whole year of stocks and investments. There is only one small restriction: When you are just going for profit, you should be aware, that shares are easier to buy, keep and sell... But as i mentioned previously in an earlier post: It shouldn't be all about the profit in arts. The joy of art is, being surrounded and looking at your artworks everyday. But of course it is good to know, that they at least keep their value...

Governments and banks worldwide telling everyone that interest rates will be low for many years? I just don't trust the fuckers. Instead of investing more like a lot of my friends are doing with all assets, especially property. I am trying to pay off everything quickly whilst rates are low to be debt free.
Once debt free give the bank the middle finger, then look back into buying with cash saved.
Ps. Still a lot cash around on this forum.. those findacs went sharpish at £700 each!

From weeks to weaks ? , by Winchester on Jun 7, 2021 7:37:47 GMT 1, I can't speak for the whole market, but regarding Banksys market there's a notorious drop since weeks.
Personally I think there's different reasons for it, Banksy needs to owe up to secure his trademark, also there are serious allegations of fraud out there that hasn't been answered plus people are waiting for paid COAs from pest control for over a year without notification or communication, that's a no go itself. Oh and we are 6 months into the year and he only done one (weak) piece.
All these things are knocking the faith out of people and they don't wanna buy.

In reality the real sales and money being spent you wont see on a forum or a banksy chart website.

Wow, you mean you arent taking your opportunity to over reach yourself in multiples? Smart bloody move. The "here grab all you can, credit is cheap" plan, that once they shove the interest rates up, leaves most on their arse, creating a market of VERY VERY cheap investments for those who sat on their hands. At the expense of those that now need to get rid to just survive and so flood the markets, temporarily killing the value. Just think how the rich will enjoy buying homes (other peoples homes, but the rich wont care), at repo rates again, i can already hear them licking their lips as they consume the less well off once again. Just because you can, doesnt mean you should. I legitimately hope im wrong, peoples lives are at stake, but we know for sure the rich and our government dont care for lives, so i doubt i am.
You mean overpriced multiples 😉
this past year I have been offloading a lot of works which has been good 👍

Open your eyes, the "real sales" are the ones through the auction houses. Those are the real public sales, the highest prices you can get as you reach the most people. Where do the "real sales" happen in your opinion? In this forum? On eBay?
And the ones in the auction houses are listed on the chart above. And the Phillips auction today was embarrassing.

The charts are all auctions in auction houses. That is the art market, I'm afraid. You'd never get the prices you'll get through Sotheby's and Co through a forum or a private sale. So the chart is even higher than it should be.
Fact is, the auctions are setting the prices you can get for your piece. You can't sell it for more than the hammer prices.

This is not me looking out at the sunny day, but rather the expectations of most economists. Those in good positions financially will reap this benefit. One would think this would be positive for the art market.

From weeks to weaks ? , by sandinista on Jun 7, 2021 12:29:42 GMT 1, Saving in banks is a waste of money at the moment and people are looking for growth or even moving to premium bonds. Besides stocks and shares where else are you going to potentially get good returns? I would think art is less volatile on the downside as well.

From weeks to weaks ? , by Lroy on Jun 7, 2021 14:19:09 GMT 1, Wow, there's a lot of mixed thoughts there all in one post.. I don't understand the part "Exponentially, the Banksy market - street-art in general, many artists and galleries - majoritiares in UK or USA (Obey) no longer wanting to sell in Europe or in the world, no longer find takers and are compartmentalized in their land of Albion or not." ? I actually think that international trades have doubled with Covid... " I don't understand the part "Exponentially, the Banksy market "
it's like in Wall streets when there is the crisis, prices are going down, down, quickly, as days pass, per example ( maybe it's because laz also ? I do'nt know ) , a cd or a book cover - sold on line, will follow the laz 's prices or going higher for a while, we will see a lot, and then, boom, some weeks later, it will be available at the price it should always have been.. before the hype. Only vinyl and posters are still have crazy prices...
Anyway just a feeling... Somes artists don't sell anymore. And GDP killed them all. Only GDP products has a value proper to a Banksy. Because of raritie ?
