Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by theclash on Jun 9, 2021 6:50:11 GMT 1, yall realize it's impossible to please every collector who wants a limited edition print right? 9k might sound steep but then again his originals are going for 400k + on secondary. Compare Boafo's sales to Callejas and 9k all of a sudden starts to make sense. Yes, Boafos auction sales are double Calleja's hence why his prints are... also double. And did you or anyone you know have a chance at that? Also, imagine how many more inquiries AA would get if the price was cheaper, wouldn't help your chances of getting one and would be an absolute cluster. Correct me If I'm wrong, but it seems the members who complain about the price are the ones who weren't even able to purchase... So many collectors, so few editions. Want to be VIP, spend more money. Don't have the money, buy-in early Much respect to Curtis, he helped guide me to building a small collection even though I'm not VIP. To this day he replies to any of my questions and shares insight. To me personally, that's how AA stands out and obviously cares about future customers.
As an aside Boafo sale in HK yest was only for $350k, half of his record. Some others, Emily Mae Smith, Loie Hollowell, smashed through estimates and records. Illiquid markets do strange things

Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by Happy Shopper on Jun 9, 2021 13:04:01 GMT 1, How pissed off people are about prices, the publisher, availability, is a good demonstration of an artist's popularity... whatever artist/gallery. AA are always going to take flak over popular and high priced releases, unfortunately!
Calleja just isn't for us casual print buyers anymore (most of us here), which is a shame.

Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by Christian Avant Arte on Jun 9, 2021 13:25:14 GMT 1, Just to come back on some of the comments.
Lower price editions Yes we will work on this and we will find new artist where we can do cheaper editions, some are in the works and also we have done editions this year for a lower price, most of the time this are editions that are not going to be discussed in the forums. But it is not true that we only do 1500 + prints Also any artist suggestions please let us know...
New buyers We take feedback very seriously and also we wanna have more Avant Arte collectors even from a Bussines perspective but also from a moral standpoint we think more people should be able to buy our editions. But it is a balance between taking care of the artist market and letting new people in, but it is just not true that we only wanna sell to our 'vip' collectors. We indeed will work on a way to do this better in communication and also when you are a 'vip' it is not super easy to explain because there is no threshold for now, but we will work on it and explain that super transparent in the coming monhts. From a personal point of view we have good relationships with Collectors who are engaged on what we are doing and also supporting launches that are less hyped.. but as said there is no threshold. And we are super open to speak with everyone and to help people get great art but as said many times if everyone want the same thing it is hard to make everyone happy. Please email ivy@avantarte.com amelia@avantarte.com curtis@avantarte.com if you are interested in our editions.
Curation I saw a comments that our curation is not good enough because some prints are not sold out on our website. Happy to get feedback on our curation but I think you can't say our curation is bad because something not sold out. Matsu, Kagan, Claire Tabouret, Nava where all artist that where very hard to sell out when we launched them, It don't mean that those artist where bad artist 'because it did not sold out directly' for example we are proud to have worked with Ali Banisadr even when his print is not sold out, I don't think it was bad curation to collaborated with him. But again happy to hear which artist you think we should work with!
All the best,
Christian

I have a question : Do someone know why this Avant Arte print is at 1200€ since you can find other Aya Takano prints at $550 on Perrotin store websites ? The AA ones are considerably Bigger and have a special kind of finish apparently... "Each print is finished with high gloss, metallic and phosphorescent screenprint layers — evoking the shimmering lights of nocturnal Tokyo."
Thanks ! On my side, I don't really like this Avant Arte print, something feels wrong, like not the colors Aya Takano usually use or something...

Thanks - these aren't showing in Europe. Much smaller, so I guess size is a significant part of the explanation (as usual!)

edit: not hating on the AA release tho, I think it looks good

But again happy to hear which artist you think we should work with! All the best, Christian Just as proof that Christian is full of shit, can he explain why some collectors received more than one Haroshi sculpture? He’s trying to save face on the forum with this act when all he cares about is profit. Just like the Javier release, AA only focuses their attention on VIPs and big spenders not the average collector they claim to support. It’s ironic because if you look at their early releases, they only got to where they are now because the average Joe decided to purchase from them.
Many members of the community have made the point that they aren’t rich or able to drop thousands of dollars on a print but will thank Christian for being “transparent” or appreciate his participation on the forum. Yet this joker along with the rest of the AA gang are posting pictures of themselves drinking champagne on a private boat (via his Insta story). Not to mention I’ve heard though the grapevine that they LOVE to splurge on fancy dinners. Yep, this is the guy who clearly cares about the average collector, not profit.
Current my Haroshi is in transit and I was still offered a pre-order for my Javier just FYI (order confirmed). On top of that I was also sent the purchase link for the actual release, not that it mattered because there were only 10 prints available.
I’ll pose one more point...AA talks about being against reselling and protecting their artists, but I know at least 4 different people who received their pre-order link who sold it for someone else to have access. All of which have confirmed orders. Clearly AA isn’t checking what names were associated with each link. 😂
Don’t defend someone who doesn’t give a damn about you. It’s a numbers game.

The Average Joes that bought the Paul Insect prints and Katrin Fridricks prints early have flipped their works and moved on, so I wouldn't trust them as a collective to do right by the artist. Spending €9000 for Calleja and €10,000 for Haroshi are beyond the means of the average Joe, and it does require folks with some real financial firepower. Average Joes shouldn't be complaining as they have no influence and no seat at the table.

Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by Christian Avant Arte on Jun 11, 2021 21:13:03 GMT 1, Just to come back on some of the comments. Lower price editionsYes we will work on this and we will find new artist where we can do cheaper editions, some are in the works and also we have done editions this year for a lower price, most of the time this are editions that are not going to be discussed in the forums. But it is not true that we only do 1500 + prints Also any artist suggestions please let us know... New buyersWe take feedback very seriously and also we wanna have more Avant Arte collectors even from a Bussines perspective but also from a moral standpoint we think more people should be able to buy our editions. CurationI saw a comments that our curation is not good enough because some prints are not sold out on our website. 😂 Don’t defend someone who doesn’t give a damn about you. It’s a numbers game. hey you asked me to explain how it come that more collectors received more than one Haroshi sculpture? quite easy he came with his friend collector to pick up the Haroshi's he even tagged him in the insta story that you posted the screenshot from. A friend collector that is a very loyal customer of us. I won't go in into all the other things you are raving about, but as most know we are really trying to allocated the works into collections of good collectors that won't flip and also having new people become an avant arte collector, as said before this is always a balance act, and we would love to get new ideas on how we can become better in this, but please keep it on the subject that my co founder is having a ride on a boat with a friend and post that on his story should not be an issue. If you have names from people flipping their order please mention.. it is super easy to say people are flipping without naming names.

Fair point, but I’m primarily criticizing AA and Christian for putting on this act that they give everyone a fair chance and that they believe in making art accessible. AA is no longer accessible; pricing aside they barely give people a chance to purchase certain works yet claim the opposite. I know plenty of people who could afford the Javier edition and genuinely wanted to add it to their collection, but had no chance. This was a result of their new business practice, cater to the “wealthy” and pre-sell as much as they can get away with.
Look, they can run their business anyway way they like, just don’t come on the forum trying to maintain the façade that they actually care about new collectors. They just need to own the fact that they have changed directions regarding how they interact with customers. Christian comes on here acting like he’s everyone’s friend, but he’s hardy transparent. In the pictures above, that one guy received 3 Haroshi. 3. That clearly goes against the whole stance they’ve made about accessibly.
And regarding reselling, it’s always going to happen. It’s just the reality of the hobby. But even with all the precautions they claim to have taken to protect the Javier edition, resellers have gotten their hands on them and AA won’t cancel orders. I mentioned above that each pre-order link was assigned to a potential buyer, and I know people who sold their access.

Stupid response, clearly you’re triggered.
I’ll say this:
1. I’m not a rat - so it’s not my job to manage your customers and report who’s flipping.
2. You make excuse after excuse but the fact of the matter is that your company has done a complete 360 in regards to accessibility. Pricing aside, you aim to cater to a limited group of elite collects because it’s the easiest thing to do. 0 Haroshi sculptures were available on the release day. And only 10 Javier prints were stocked on the website.
3. I have deep roots in the collecting world Christian, we’ve even met once before. And I know for a fact that this particular collector received more than one.
4. You care only about money. And that’s ok, just own it. Don’t act like your anyone’s friend. These past releases have shown how you run your business. Stop making excuses.
5. If you don’t want people (especially customers) seeing how you spend your money, make your Instagram private. Simple as that. If it’s public we can say whatever we want. Definitely not cheap to go on a boat ride in a tux, drinking champagne. Javier profit paying off huh?

Print the buyer's face on the coa to reflect ownership. The only way to change it is when they transfer ownership, and it can only be done by the person on the coa. Happy to discuss directly through pm. I got flippers quaking in their boots with this measure.

Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by state on Jun 11, 2021 23:06:45 GMT 1, Just to come back on some of the comments. 😂 Don’t defend someone who doesn’t give a damn about you. It’s a numbers game. if what you're saying is true, (you know people who sold their pre sale links) and AA didn't bother to cross reference names... well that's just a slap in the face.
Just to come back on some of the comments. CurationI saw a comments that our curation is not good enough because some prints are not sold out on our website. 120% true, as long as AA hits their pre-sale margin they honestly couldn’t care who purchased the print despite all the rodomontade about the selection process. And needless to say releasing only 10 prints out of an edition of 210 is seriously unacceptable.
Don’t know if you were going for the prints for not, but I know a ton of collectors who went through the proper channels, did the stupid interview, and were left in the dust with the measly 10 prints on release date. So AA not taking the time to cross check orders is definitely a slap in the face to many.
It’s also hilarious that Christian thinks me or anyone else would rat anyone out. Get me payroll first then we can talk Christian (though you couldn’t afford my rate).

Aya Takano 🇯🇵 Japanese Painter • Superflat • Manga, by Jimini Cricket on Jun 12, 2021 0:51:52 GMT 1, 2 out of 8 releases renaining. She stopped being flippable, so flippers stopped buying. All you average Joes, now's your time to shine. right at the same time she went from doing screen prints to doing giclee with Avant Arte. Strange timing...
For the prices AA charge on their editions, I'd feel ripped off if it was an inkjet print, but facts is facts. 8 prints released, 6 sold out, 2 still sitting.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. 😅
Obviously I would never rat someone out. I was poking fun at what Christian said:
“If you have names from people flipping their order please mention.. it is super easy to say people are flipping without naming names.”
Like it’s my job to help AA manage what their customers do. He would have to hire me and match my current salary for me to do anything to help (which would never happen...ever lol)

You shouldn't work for free No, that's a cop out. I think it's because you know it's a game that can't be won. There will always be unhappy people no matter how you handle a popular release. Complain about prices, edition size, favoritism, bots ,flippers, lotteries..... it'll never end.

This is called nepotism and paid advertising. Even though I would never collect such nonsense, it is unfair for the people who really want to have one. Varol Selim and his colleague have so much stuff, do they really need these kitsch figures? Anyway, I can tell you from long experience that it's better to build on new customers, because the collector circle changes its tastes quickly.I would also tell people how many loyal collectors you have. If your edition is 100 and you have 100 loyal collectors, only max 1-10 pieces come on the market, I would be that fair, everything else is a game of cat and mouse.
