Stret-art is going wrong. Sick.
In fact, this forum is now made up of artorks to flip, flippers, and nobody discusses, nor likes art for the sake of art, that is to say, creativity, amazing artworks, discovery, the love of art itself.
Everyone has behind their occiput their little idea in mind: if I buy this, will it be enought good to flip ?
Even the artists, their curators or the galleries: it freaks out (even I got screwed with this Mr Doodle and this scandalous story of shenanigans between artists / gallery owners under the pretext of art/charity because of Art Car Bootfair - that I thought serious, with aim and essence - ? Is-it the addictology of the collector, the fear of "missing something", kinda the next Banksy or Baskiat or Haring ?
All this to say (and we can see it with the crazy prices for DVDs, postcards, or banksy CDs, which will not be worth a potty in 2 years), that we have forgotten the very essence of creation: Astonishment and singularity!
Everything seems to be packets of crisps, this forum has become a place to buy / sell, to flip, and we forget to discuss art or exhibitions ( little or no word on the next great exhibition of Hirst, on the Evol show and its incredible print, no, here we prefer to praise the toys, and the prints to flip right away, than to talk about contemporary art or not, about street- art etc...
Per example, everyone regretted not having had the last of 3D, not for the beauty of the print itself (this yellow and this composition) but indeed for the underlying flip.
When will we come back to real values and creations, those which will be sure and essential for the world of tomorrow?
I only hear about flips around here, it's a shame.
And everybody do not care, as if we were ...

Not hyping, just trying to put artists/art at the right place : it's not normal that a genius as Evol, sanctified by Banksy, as a guest star at Pow, the legend Pow, is not more liked it. It's not a question of value etc... Just, to put artists/art at their right places !
( in fact some artists are only dropping one or 2 prints and they are nominated " artists of the year/century "( sic ) , when real creators, are working hard and trying to make shows, walls - look Invader, he is always and still on the front, in the streets, not always in front of his photopshop computer ) ...
I have met yesterday an artist ( great buyer and flipper too of old school legends painters ) who likes Futura, Obey, Cope, etc etc ) : he only buys prints, sculptures, or posters that will be good to flip and take value ?! And he is naming himself a great artist ! a great flipper yes ! what a world !
I won't buy this evol, I can't. But hey ! as Dran etc.. Banksy/POW never made mistakes !

Flippers aren't bad for artists really. They just love money more than creativity. Though some of the ploys to extract money from the unsuspecting lately, may themselves be described as creative.

It would be nice if this forum discussed emerging and contemporary artists. But then again, any artists discussed here would become overly hyped and end up on ebay or submitted to tate ward once an email order confirmation is received. If this were a forum for art discussion, release information and for sale posts would be banned.

But it is true that it became more and more a way for quick and easy cash.
I guess it is the financialization of our society and the speculation.
I am here for the love of art, I keep art long. I buy what I like. The money comes afterward if I made a good choice in the long term and only helps me to buy more art.
You can easily get caught in this hype short term speculation thing like with sneakers… I have to say I got caught at the beginning but now it is over for me.
I like chatting with people for their love of art, discovering new artists, going to galleries.

I just scrolled through 'New Posts' and there are threads on shows (Senna and the Bristol Vanguard thing), new releases and other interesting stuff - eg the Banksy legal bid.
I like seeing FS threads - I'm always on the look out for more interesting stuff (and you can learn a lot from them too when older works come up) and a large part of collecting art is about buying.
The only thing I'm (personally) not interested in are threads on Banksy work values - but I get why they are important and should exist here - and salty threads about how great things used to be in the past.
If you want more content on a particular area then post more is my view.

True. if banksy released a print tomorrow for £500 that you didnt like who wouldnt buy it? you have to be very well off to not want to make an easy £20k+. Would you think I wont buy it as those strangers on the forum might like the print and want it. take the potential gain out of most releases and the majority probably wouldnt sell out. there's only so many pictures you can put on the wall so why are you filling up portfolios? If the artists and galleries were bothered by flipping they would place most prints with regulars. |

If you advertise fake eBay art on here you encourage the sellers of said fake eBay art to join up with a captive audience to scam. The support for all the crap hound copy artists is verging on completely ridiculous, practically everything we now see on here is total rubbish and is the exact opposite of creativity. The hype gang will soon be the only ones left, vacuously hyping to one another like an echo chamber of artless one-upmanship.
I realise and appreciate there are still lots of genuine art enthusiasts on here that aren't scammers however recently I have personally felt uncomfortable posting or even looking on here. Many of you know that I have received a creepy and threatening private msg from a person hyping their crap hound copy art just to be advised to ignore it and block them, so it appears misogyny won out yet again.
Im glad Banksy just got trademark protection, I admit I don't know legally all that entails yet but some of you deserve to be called out, not so much for copying the art but more for being vile, despicable, sexist, racist scammers. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the motivation behind acquiring the trademarks and I'm intrigued to see what happens next.

Maybe I posted this thread, because of some readings in dm's, some questions in the threads, and because many are buying with the idea " will it be good to flip now ?
I reckon that I made a mistake and I bought this Doodle ( i should listen to the forum then ) , not to flip now but maybe in the future, bew years later " in case of " ... Doodle will be a new Haring ! Anyway, to conclude, my real motivation was to have a " Doodle " amongst my collection.
Then came Blok party ( already 12 pages no ? ) ...
In fact, all this thread is resumed in the WCP thread ( I bought tow prints this morning, selling old obey instead of : Keept it real and Monkey Queen, I always dreamed of this print, even beofre I got the LP ) ..
